Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Surgical Technologist to join our surgical team. The Surgical Technologist, or Surg Tech, plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, sterilizing instruments, and assisting surgeons during surgery. This position requires an individual with strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preoperative Preparation: Assist in the preparation of the operating room by ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterile, organized, and ready for use. Set up surgical instruments, drapes, and equipment according to the procedure.
- Sterilization: Ensure that all surgical instruments are sterilized, handled, and maintained in accordance with safety and infection control guidelines.
- Assisting Surgeons: Assist the surgical team during operations by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures. Maintain a sterile field to prevent contamination during the procedure.
- Monitoring Instruments and Equipment: Ensure that all necessary equipment is functioning properly and assist in the operation of specialized instruments or machinery during surgery.
- Intraoperative Assistance: Act as a key team member during surgery, anticipating the surgeon’s needs, providing instruments, and preparing samples for laboratory examination if required.
- Patient Safety: Maintain a safe, sterile environment for the patient throughout the surgical procedure. Monitor the patient’s status and assist with positioning and draping as needed.
- Documentation: Accurately document the surgical procedure, including the types and amounts of surgical supplies and instruments used during the procedure. Maintain an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure none are left inside the patient.
- Postoperative Care: Assist in cleaning and sterilizing the operating room and surgical instruments after surgery. Ensure proper disposal of surgical waste.
- Collaboration: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the patient’s care is coordinated and efficient during all phases of surgery.
- Compliance: Follow all hospital, state, and federal regulations and guidelines for infection control, patient safety, and surgical procedures.
