Preparation of the Operating Room:

• Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures by sterilizing instruments, setting up surgical tools, and ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly.
• Confirm patient identity, surgical site, and procedure using the hospital’s verification protocols (e.g., patient safety checklist).
• Ensure that sterile drapes, sterile instruments, and necessary equipment are properly arranged and ready for use.

Assisting in Surgery:

• Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies to surgeons during the procedure.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team, ensuring instruments are readily available in a sterile and efficient manner.
• Maintain a sterile field throughout the surgery by following infection control protocols.
• Retract tissues and assist with the handling of specimens, such as biopsies or surgical samples, during the procedure.
