Job Title: Surgical Technologist Job Specialty: Operating Room Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Day, Schedule Day (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM) plus nights/weekend call Guaranteed Hours: 36.00 hours per week Experience: 2 years of Surgical Tech experience License: Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology required or successful completion of military training program for Surgical Technology or Operating Room Specialist Certifications: BLS (completed through AHA or ARC only) Must-Have: Physical ability to perform tasks as outlined, ability to distinguish colors, vision and hearing for distances up to 20 feet, ability to lift and support 35 pounds Job Description: - Apply surgical technology skills to assist in providing patient care in the surgical suite while maintaining a safe work environment. - Ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and vigilantly maintain the sterile field. - Possess a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application. - Assist in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior to, during, and after surgical procedures. - Assist the registered nurse circulator in patient preparation, assembly of supplies, and proper disposition of all specimens; assist with room turnover. - Perform duties in accordance with department policies and procedures. - Monitor surgical supplies for sterility prior to use and ensure supplies are used judiciously; document and submit charges accurately and appropriately. - Monitor and document sterilization activities for completion. - Attend in-services/staff meetings; exhibit knowledge of current department-related issues and participate in the Performance Improvement Process. - Participate in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal needs and goals. - Assist in developing policies, procedures, and standards. - Work with occasional intermittent noise and exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, and chemicals. - Undertake strenuous physical activities including walking, stretching, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, squatting, or kneeling, and standing for long periods. - Required to frequently use side vision, and to lift, push, and pull. - Use hands for gripping, speed work, and precision during operation equipment/instruments and movement/positioning of surgical patients. - Manage lengthy or irregular work hours, rotating shifts, working on hard surfaces, being near moving equipment, changes in temperature, humidity, and exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens.
