About The Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU/Med Surg/Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: RN License Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: PCU or MedSurg experience Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in PCU, Med Surg, and Oncology. The unit has 28 beds and requires a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 for PCU and 1:5 for Med Surg. Common patient diagnoses include oncology and trauma cases. Nurses may occasionally need to titrate drips such as insulin and Cardizem. BLS and ACLS certifications are required, and chemotherapy certification is preferred if hanging chemo. The unit provides support staff including nursing assistants, PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, and dietician. Nurses are expected to handle common drips and medications like chemotherapy, heparin, Cardizem, and Protonix. Other needed competencies include ventilator operation and hemodynamic monitoring; training is available in real time. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC, with Alaris IV pumps and specialty equipment available. Float opportunities to Med Surg and PCU units are available. Orientation is provided for 12 hours. Preferred qualities in candidates include a genuine need to care for patients, a positive attitude, teamwork, and respect for diverse cultural and religious beliefs. The focus is on patient experience and hourly rounding is emphasized. The cancellation policy allows for 3 shift cancellations per 13-week contract. The position does not require a BSN, but candidates must have a valid RN license.
