Department Start 0700-1930Call RequirementsNo standing on call requirements; rarely may be put on call if low patient volume. other weekend. If agency nurse calls in absent on their scheduled weekend to work, the missed weekend will need to be worked the next weekend to fulfill the requirement. Holiday rotation: currently is 3 or 6 winterholiday.General InformationTell us about the unit(s):Number of Beds 37 beds which includes a10 bedsection for acuity adaptable chronic trach/ventilator patients.Number of Staff 60-70Type of Shift 1 charge/12-13 RN/3-4 Patient Care Assistants (PCA)/HUC; May vary based on level of patient acuity.Night Shift 1 charge/12-13 RN/3-4 PCA/HUC; May vary based on level of patient acuity.PatientRatios 1:3-4 patient; based on acuity levels. There may be the ability to have one or two assignments of 1:2 ratio if ICU level of patient acuity.Type of equipment Ventilators,bipap,cpap, high flow /salter NC oxygen delivery device. All patients are on wall mounted cardiac monitors. End tidal CO2 monitor may be used for specific patient requirements. Alaris IV pumps,Voceracommunication devices.EMR Epic documentationFrequently used IV medicated drips in MPCU include (but not limited to) Insulin, Amiodarone, Cardizem,Levophed,Precedex, Cardine, Heparin, Dopamine, TPN.Typical hiring profileSkill Set Most recruited for:(Travel RNs, local CNAs and sitters)Must without these skills will not be considered for the certification (recommended)IV medicated dripsTracheostomy experience (trach collar, stable ventilatory patientsBipap,Cpap, Hi-flow NC oxygen deliveryUnit performs their ownphlebotomylabdraws.ICU and other critical careexperienceisa plusPreferred or nice with these skills will be considered first.Best personality fit for MPCU/Acute Intermediate Care Unit/progressive care step-down trach/ventilator support, neuro-surgical patients including non-complicated back surgeries, VP shunts, stable subdural hematoma. Post op thyroid surgeries. DKA patients on insulin drips. Other patient populations include, respiratory conditions, vasoactive drips, GI bleed, ETOH withdrawal, behavioral and substance abuse, suicidal patients. Renal dialysis patients. Situations requiring emergent intubation may take place in this unit then the patient will be transferred to a higher level of critical care.
