Delivers prescribed course of radiation treatment to patient.2. Checks patient chart for prescription, diagnosis, and treatment schedule.3. Prepares patient for treatment which includes explaining basic procedures and being perceptive and sensitive to patient s physical andemotional condition in order to notify appropriate personnel of the need for any intervention, i.e., Social Services, Chaplaincy,Dietitians, etc.4. Observes any unusual or severe reactions from prior treatments, and reports to physician prior to administering any subsequenttreatments.5. Prepares room equipment in accordance with prescribed treatment plan which involves equipment testing, immobilization devices, fieldsize, treatment couch, giving special care to catheters, intravenous drips, etc.6. Transfers patient to treatment couch giving special care to catheters, intraveneous drips, etc.7. Positions patients insuring that radiation source and the area to be irradiated are in proper alignment.8. Delivers prescribed dose insuring that safe amounts of radiation are administered and that exposure is made only to prescribed areas.9. Maintains constant visual and audible communication with patient during treatment through television monitoring system, observingpatient motion or if the patient is having any difficulty.10. Audible communication is achieved through use of intercom.11. Records dosages administered on treatment summary and log sheet in patient s chart.12. Generates appropriate patient treatment data to include documenting appropriate billing codes, and organizes treatment charts.13. Documents treatment fields with verification films for viewing by the Radiation Therapist and Radiation Oncologist for the purpose ofmonitoring the radiation treatment parameters.14. Determines the amount, rate, and distribution of radiation dose, and performs mathematical calculations in accordance with establishedformulas. (Dosage calculations are verified by physicist.)15. Performs simulation duties which involves producing localization films of anatomical sites, and processing films for viewing by RadiationOncologist.16. Makes shielding devices in accordance with Radiation Oncologists instruction.17. Operates block cutter which involves making precise measurements to produce shields.18. Produces other Bolus and position devices to accommodate patient s needs utilizing ingenuity.19. Maintains skin markings on patient to include tattooing patient to outline prescribed area for radiation treatment.20. Assists staff Physicist in the quality control of all radiation therapy equipment.21. Reports instrumentation malfunction or suspected malfunction of equipment to supervisor.22. Maintains patient schedules which permit efficient utilization of machinery and patient services.23. Maintains adequate caution in loading and unloading of cerro-alloy blocks so no patient injury or damage of equipment results.Employee meets all minimum competency requirements of position.CRH Standards of ServiceEmployee meets behavioral standards and expectations as set by Columbus Regional Health s Standards of Service and administrative policies.SUMMARYDelivers radiation treatments to patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist.Maintains accurate records of daily treatment delivery for each patient.Performs daily quality control tests on each linear accelerator and simulator.Provides patient and family members with information regarding treatments.Maintains all equipment in a safe and satisfactory working order by reporting all defects or deficiences as they arise to the Technical Coordinatoror Physicist.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. S.) from four-year college or university; Associates degree (A.S.) from a two-year program; Certificate degreefrom one year program. All programs must be in Radiation Therapy Technology, and approved by the American Medical Association.Graduate of such program must be ARRT Certified.Certifications, Licenses, RegistrationsGraduate of an AMA approved school of Radiation Therapy Technology Bachelor, Associate, or Certificate program. Must maintainARRT Certification. Must maintain Radiation Therapist License in the state of Indiana (if not current needs to obtain within 30 days ofhire).Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmentalregulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information andrespond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Mathematical SkillsAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometryand trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technicalinstructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.Other Skills and AbilitiesRegular and frequent contact with patients, family and physicians for the purpose of giving and receiving information and instruction. Requires ability to interact effectively for the purpose of instilling confidence, eliciting cooperation and alleviating fears and anxieties inpatients who may be in poor condition physicially, mentally and who may have undergone mutilating surgery. Requires mental concentration to perform dosimetry calculations and to regulate the controls of the radiation equipment to deliver theaccurate amount of radiation. Requires alertness to details and the ability to make precise measurements and to comprehend physician s orders and prescriptions. Requires visual concentration to continually observe patients during treatment process.
