Has skills in outpatientrehabilitation settings to effectively provide Physical Therapy evaluations andtreatments. Should at minimum be familiar withbest practice and the latest evidence for common ambulatory clinic pathologiessuch as degenerative conditions, neurologic impairments, general orthopedics,and post-operative care. Should be proficient withrendering common treatment techniques such as, but not limited to; manualtherapy, neuro rehab techniques, exercise modalities, and use of functionalactivities to help patients reach maximum function. Specialty therapy certificationsare not required, however, may enhance consideration. Must be flexible and responsive toproviding care in alternative settings such as the inpatient unit foroccasional cross-coverage and holiday coverage needs.ResponsibilitiesClinical PracticeAdministers treatments andoccupational agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort torestore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physicaldisability.Assists patients to reach theirmaximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within thelimits of their capabilities.Observes and evaluates treatment effect.Recommends change to physician, if needed.Performs an appropriate evaluationand assessment on each patient, as related to the therapy requested andprovided and reassessments, as per policy.Able to assess patient paininterfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation -makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.Formulates a teaching plan basedon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family isincluded in teaching, as appropriate.Treats patients and their familieswith respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic,and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.Manages and operates equipmentsafely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.Interacts professionally withpatient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan ofcare.Communicates appropriately andclearly to physicians, staff, and administrative team.Responsibilities appropriate PhysicalTherapy Department staff, including: Physical Therapist Assistants;Rehabilitation Aides/Mobility Technicians; Physical Therapy or PhysicalTherapist Assistant certification applicants; and/or Physical Therapy orPhysical Therapist Assistant students.Maintains records pertinent tothe personnel and operation of the department.Meets current clinicaldocumentation standards and policies.Assists with orientation andin-service training for certified department staff members.Participates in guidance andeducational programs.Uses approved abbreviations whenrecording information.Ensures that patient charges areaccurate and entered on a timely basis.
