Job Summary:
The Pharmacist is responsible for preparing and dispensing medications, advising patients and healthcare professionals on drug therapies, and ensuring the safe and effective use of medications. The pharmacist ensures compliance with regulatory standards and works to improve patient health outcomes through medication management and education.Key Responsibilities:
- Medication Dispensing: Accurately prepare, dispense, and label prescriptions according to physician orders and legal requirements.
- Patient Consultation: Provide counseling to patients on proper medication use, potential side effects, interactions, and storage.
- Drug Therapy Management: Collaborate with healthcare providers to evaluate medication regimens and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Inventory Management: Maintain inventory control, including ordering, stocking, and managing the expiration of medications.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including maintaining accurate records and managing controlled substances.
- Patient Safety: Identify potential medication errors or adverse drug reactions and take appropriate action to prevent harm.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of prescriptions, patient profiles, and medication therapy management interventions.
- Collaborative Care: Work with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Clinical Services (if applicable): Provide clinical services such as immunizations, health screenings, and wellness consultations.
Qualifications:
- Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited pharmacy school.
- Licensure: Current state pharmacist license in good standing.
- Experience: Previous experience as a pharmacist preferred but not required.
- Certifications (if applicable): Additional certifications, such as immunization certification or Medication Therapy Management (MTM), may be required based on the role.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and patient care. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Technology: Familiarity with pharmacy software systems and electronic health records (EHR).
Work Environment:
- Work in retail, hospital, or clinic settings depending on the job location.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and handle medications safely.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays if required.
