Job Summary: Med-Surg/PCU Nurse (12-Hour Nights)

Key Details:

• Shift: 12-hour nights, 36–48 hrs/week (OT after 48 hrs).
• Contract Length: 13 weeks (ends by March 15, 2025).
• RTO: Max 7 days (must be pre-approved).
• Float Requirement: Float to similar units.
• Weekend Requirement: 4 shifts in 6 weeks (may vary based on needs).
• Scrubs: White or navy blue.

Requirements:

• Experience: Min. 1 year (1st-time travelers accepted).
• Skills: IV start, vents, telemetry, CPAP/BiPAP, dysrhythmia interpretation/management.
• Certs: ACLS, BLS (NIHSS preferred).
• Testing: EKG test prior to start.

Patient Details:

• Population: COPD, pneumonia, respiratory distress, COVID-19, flu, chest tubes, telemetry, and comorbidities.
• Ratios: 1:4–5 (up to 1:6 in extreme cases).
• Support Staff:
  • Team lead (3:1 rounds)
  • 2 respiratory therapists
  • Assistant Nurse Manager (weekends included)
  • Admission/Discharge nurse, vascular access team, RRT, code team, behavioral health team

JOB DETAILS:
Target Ratios: 1:4-5 (Mixed acuity unit with PCU and MS/Tele patients) In extreme situations the unit will go to a 1:6 ratio.
*36 - 48 hrs can be offered. OT will be offered after 48 hrs has been reached.
Unit will accept contracts from 13 weeks up to March 15, 2025 (hard stop) to get the Unit through the Holidays!

Float Requirement: required to float to like units.
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts in 6 weeks but staffing needs may require more.

Patient Population: COPD, Client, Resp distress, Covid-19, FLU, PE's.
***Patient population currently includes care for COVID-19 patients, including those who have tested positive.***

SPECIAL PROCEDURES / UNIT DETAILS: Our acuity is on the higher end of a med-surg unit, but we do operate with a team lead present in a 3:1 that rounds the whole unit, 2 respiratory therapists that are rounding, and an assistant nurse manager on shift including weekends. We do take ventilators on our unit but they are for chronic trach/vent patients. Our model is that no nurse has more than one vent patient at a time. Our unit is 48 beds in total. Our CNA's are a 9-10:1. Most of our patient population is going to be COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, and patients with chest tubes, CPAP, BiPAP. Many have comorbidities as well as telemetry monitoring.
