About The Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse - Oncology Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening/Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12.5 hours Experience: Not specified License: Registered Nurse (RN) Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Must-Have: OCN certification is strongly encouraged Description: This oncology unit has a capacity of 24 beds. The unit includes one lead-lined room suitable for radiation isolation. The patient population includes those with solid tumors such as lung, breast, and colon cancers, as well as patients with leukemia, lymphomas, myeloma, and gynecologic malignancies, primarily ovarian and cervical. The unit also provides cancer symptom management, treats febrile neutropenia, uncontrolled pain, sickle cell anemia, other hematologic diseases, post-operative mastectomy, post-operative gynecological oncology, and serves as a Med/Surg overflow area. Ages of patients served range from young adults through late adults, ages 18 to 60 and older. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6. The core staffing plan includes a variable staffing grid consisting of Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), and Nurse Interns (NIs). An RN assumes full responsibility for the patients in each team.
