Certification Details
- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:3 depending on downgrade/acuity/emergency admit (infrequent when staffed)
- Common diagnoses/Types of patients: mesothelioma, thoracic aortic dissection, esophagectomy, lung decortications SICU overflow including multiple varieties of general surgery
- Experience or 'Must have' skills: early recognition of change in patient condition, clear communication and escalation with providers, critical thinking skills, CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, ventilator, various drains/surgical sites
- RNs required to titrate drips: yes
- Common titratable &/or set rate drips: vasopressin, epinephrine, levophed, heparin, dobutamine, dopamine, versed, hydromorphone, fentanyl, ketamine, nimbex, esmolol, cardene
- Charge Nurse on each shift: yes; preference is free charge but depends on staffing, right now taking full assignment
- Nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit: intermittent, dependent on census, 1:12 when present. Patient ADL's, blood glucose checks, transport assist
- Hospitalist &/or Intensivist in house 24/7: yes, intensivist on unit days and/or nights, APP's on unit 24/7
- RT in ICU 24/7: yes
- RT Equipment: not really required to do anything with these besides troubleshoot
- Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit: no techs, yes, RN reads strip - Phillips monitors
- Shifts & Scheduling: self scheduling within reason. Original requests made, then request for team movement to balance on their own, then balanced by management
- Weekend Requirements: 4-6 days in 6 weeks depending on coverage
- Holiday Requirements: please check with Larkin on this one
- Call or standby requirement: may be flexed off if census is low, not usually a problem. Standby only if unit closes for low census, again, not usually a problem maybe once/year if that
- Floating Requirements: first to float, then OT floats, then remainder of staff. Float to other ICU's within hospital, skill set will be considered for assignment
- Scrub Color/Dress Code: teal bottoms, black or printed coordinating scrub top, no fleece jackets. No shellac, dip, or acrylic nails, no overlays. Unchipped regular nail polish is allowed. Professional and identifiable as nursing staff
- Number of shifts of unit/department specific orientation: 2
Job Details
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS preferred
- Experience: 3+ years experience, previous travel experience, and experience in a very busy hospital preferred

Unit Specific Information
- Unit is ICU for Thoracic Surgery and overflow General Surgery ICU
- Need CRRT/SLED training on NxStage system, experience with PA catheters/hemodynamics, spinal drain management preferred
- Candidates need to be flexible on scheduling - no self scheduling
- Daily Parking is $15+/day. Multiple options for on/off campus garages and lots ranging from $95 - $120 for monthly parking pass.
