Job Title: Telemetry Nurse Job Specialty: Telemetry Med/Surg, Telemetry Cardiac Job Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift, 7 pm - 7 am, Weekends Guaranteed Hours: Not specified Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years ED experience preferred License: Registered Nurse, Current MA license Certifications: AHA BLS required, ACLS obtained within 60 days of hire, AHA PALS within six months of hire; TNCC, ENPC, and CEN preferred Must-Have: Strong assessment skills, critical thinking skills, and communication skills; Ability to function independently in the Emergency Department Job Description: - Perform a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities based on standards defined by the Emergency Department. - Assess (and reassesses), plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions/plans of care/patient goals. - Provide patient care based on standards of care, standards of practice, protocols, and established policies and procedures. - Respect each patient as an individual, providing care that fosters the patient's sense of dignity and positive self-regard. - Provide patient/family teaching based on identified learning needs, readiness to learn, and barriers to learning. - Collaboratively plan and prepare patient/family for discharge, incorporating support systems/resources as necessary. - Appropriately delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others. - Prioritize patient care appropriately, seeking assistance as needed from appropriate resources, reassigning personnel as necessary, and recognizing the need for emergency intervention. - Provide thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all pertinent data, therapeutic interventions, and patient responses according to established standards. - Provide timely and thorough reports on assigned patients to other healthcare team members to ensure the integration of services and continuity of patient care. - Promote learning for colleagues and self, functioning as a preceptor, instructor, or trainer, and attending professional development programs. - Proactively identify risk to patient safety and opportunities to reduce medical/health care errors, including appropriate reporting of errors/incidents. - Identify ethical issues in care and develop plans to address them. - Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy in accordance with physician orders, protocols, policies, and procedures. - Assess patient pain level upon admission and as necessary, utilizing the numerical pain scale, and reassessing the effectiveness of pain control. - Perform and document initial assessment upon patient arrival and implement triage protocols as needed. - Identify patients at risk for potential/alleged abuse and initiate safety plans for domestic violence, child, and elder abuse patients. - Complete required mandated reporting in a timely manner and collect and document forensic evidence as per policy. - Maintain chain of evidence per policy and procedures and complete mandated reports for stabbings, gunshot wounds, burns, and sexual assault per policy and procedure. - Maintain knowledge of Disaster Policy and Procedure. - Identify patients at risk for violent behavior and appropriately implement non-violent intervention (e.g., de-escalation techniques). - Demonstrate knowledge of the indications for, alternatives, monitoring, and documentation of restraint use. - Recognize normal and abnormal laboratory and diagnostic results and appropriately notify the physician of changes in a timely manner. - Safely administer vasoactive medications, demonstrating understanding of dosage, action, use, side effects, and titration parameters associated with maintenance of critical drips. - Perform accurate and timely identification of cardiac arrhythmias and institute, monitor, and document thrombolytic and anticoagulation therapy standards and protocols. - Demonstrate skills associated with initiation and maintenance of the intubated patient, including suctioning, troubleshooting, and weaning. - Accurately interpret arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry, and clinical features of impaired gas exchange and/or airway clearance. - Obtain supporting information and complete required documentation related to medication reconciliation for use by the attending physician. - Implement components of the VAP bundle consistently and per protocol. Alert the Nurse Manager/Director/Nursing Supervisor if there is a deviation from the VAP bundle by the attending physician for case review and follow-up as indicated. Physical Requirements: - Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. - Frequently reach (extend hands and arms in any direction), handle (seize, hold, grasp, turn, or work with hands), and feel (perceive attributes of items such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by means of fingertips). - Occasionally stoop (bend the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist), kneel (bend the legs at the knee to come to rest on a knee or knees), and distinguish colors.
