At this level, all major modes of transportation are used, as most individual trips involve combinations of more than one mode. Travel is varied, often not recurrent and periodically requires planning for relatively inaccessible intermediate or destination points. The incumbent is characterized by independence of action, with very little instruction, guidance, and review, except for review of accomplishments of broad objectives and conformance to policy. The incumbent is viewed as the authority on travel matters, including the furnishing of advice and information to travelers, administrative officials and others; and has responsibility as the principal liaison with all elements, carriers, and facilities.
Responsibilities
Major Responsibilities:
+ Counsel all authorized military and civilian employees and dependents of their entitlements for travel via commercial air, government air, contracted air, ferry, commercial bus, and charter bus.
+ Plan itinerary and schedule travel accommodations for military and civilian personnel with dependents according to travel orders using knowledge of routes, types of carriers and travel regulations.
+ Plan and process commercial travel routings in accordance with DOD regulations and customer request.
+ Obtain and validate funding availability for unit movement.
+ Provide timely and accurate communication to stakeholders; requiring the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
+ Build customer relationship and confidence through the use the of strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
+ Responsible for making travel arrangements
+ Verify travel orders to ensure costs, availability and convenience of different types of carriers to select most advantageous route and carrier.
+ Routings are diverse and there is a necessity for frequent rerouting, re-planning, or rearranging, with many side trips requiring changes in modes of travel and creating substantial difficulty in routing and scheduling connections.
+ A substantial amount of travel involves special allowances or requires authorization and planning for supplementary or special transportation facilities. It is frequently difficult to obtain the required information.
+ Utilize DOD information systems to procure and coordinate charter commercial aircrafts and commercial buses for simple to complex personnel movements.
+ Conduct information search and research, using analytical and creative problem-solving skills, questioning feedback skills, customer service orientation and commitment to quality, responsibility, meeting high work standards and initiatives.
+ Inspect carrier equipment and personnel to determine if the quality of service provided conforms to the terms and conditions of the DOD 4500.9R and DOD Bus Agreement.
+ Provide on-site assistance for safely loading cargo and passengers.
+ Obtain and maintain knowledge and updates of the JTR, DOD 4500.9R, AR 55-46 and other governing policies and regulations.
+ Performs other duties and assignments as required.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
+ Computer, office supplies, etc.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
+ Office Environment. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
+ Work requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, occasionally working in cramped or awkward positions.
+ Frequently lifts equipment weighing 25 pounds. Occasionally assists lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Employee stands for long periods.
+ Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and published Company work rules.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications : One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
+ High School graduate
+ Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
Experience:
+ Equivalent + 2-5 years related experience.
+ Must have or able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
+ Must successfully pass a NACI background investigation.
+ Valid state driver’s license required.
