Cath Lab Technologist - (Cath Lab Tech)

I. SCOPE OF SERVICES II. PATIENT POPULATION - Estimated ratios, not guaranteed III. SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY OF PATIENT CARE NEEDS Cardiovascular Services of Wesley Medical Center provides services for invasive and non-invasive procedure care. The Cardiac Cath Laboratory provides services for invasive and non-invasive procedure care. The Cardiac Cath department is staffed to operate four (4) procedure rooms Monday through Friday 0700 to 1900. An "on-call" staff is available 24/7 for emergency procedures. The EP Laboratory provides services for invasive and non-invasive procedure care. The EP department is staffed to operate one (1) procedure rooms Monday through Friday 0700 to 1600. The ECG Laboratory provides services for non-invasive procedure care including, 12-Lead ECG, Stress testing and Holter Monitor. The ECG department is staffed to operate Monday through Sunday 0000 to 2359. The Echo Laboratory provides services for non-invasive procedure care. The Echo department is staffed to operate Monday through Friday 0630 to 1900. An "on-call" staff is available 24/7 for emergency procedures. The patient population served by the Cardiovascular Services consists of the newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients requiring or seeking procedural/surgical intervention to maintain or restore an optimum level of wellness. Cardiovascular Services provides a safe and comfortable environment for both patients and personnel in order to provide optimum assistance to the physicians in meeting the emergency, preventive and restorative health needs of the patients. The Cardiovascular Services staff provides quality-conscious, competent and cost-effective care with respect for life and dignity. The patient's physical, psychological and social needs are assessed initially on the Nursing Units and are reassessed once they arrive within the appropriate cardiovascular procedure area, with a plan of care developed and revised as necessary. SERVICES/PRODUCTS: Modifications to that plan of care are based on reassessment of the patient. In the immediate post-procedure phase, the patient is under the direct supervision of the performing physician who maintains responsibility for the needs of the patient until the patient has been appropriately discharged from Cardiovascular Services. The basic staffing plan for each procedure room is (1) circulator, (1) scrub and (1) monitor technician. The scrub tech position may be filled by a trained RN's, RT's, and RCIS's. In cases where conscious sedation is administered, the policy, procedure and standards related to conscious sedation are followed. Cardiovascular Services staff consist of RN's, RT's, and RCIS's. Cardiac Cath/EP Laboratory staff members maintain current BCLS certification, and ACLS certification. All registered nurses maintain a current state RN license – RT to maintain current state ARRT licensure – RCIS to maintain current state RCIS certification), as well as the Basic EKG/Arrhythmia identification certification. Organizational memberships to the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN), American Society of Post Anesthesia Nurses (ASPAN), Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) and the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals (SICP) is encouraged. An ongoing program of inservice education and periodic clinical skills evaluation for all staff members is maintained to ensure that the quality of care provided is kept current with the developments in the medical, nursing, anesthesia and infection control fields. The AORN, ASPAN, Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Public Health Department standards are references used in the formulation and review of policies, procedures and standards of practice in the Cardiac Cath/EP Laboratory, as well as collaborative input from the knowledge and expertise of the Cardiac Cath/EP Laboratory staff. To assist in meeting patient care needs, support is readily available from all equipment and instrument manufacturers. The intradepartmental team consists of the following six distinct, but interrelated entities providing the following services to our customers: Electrocardiography: EKG tracing, interpretation, and editing. Staff assistance to physicians while performing specialized testing specific to this division. Archival, consultation, education, .and overhead services to other departments in the medical center. Diagnostic EKG services to physicians, hospitals, and clinics in rural areas of Kansas. Echocardiography: Diagnostic testing to aid in the diagnosis of heart and vascular diseases, as well as provide additional data of significance, at the order of a physician. Provide assistance to physicians in the performance of specialized testing specific to this division.

This facility recently opened a children’s hospital, which is the only dedicated pediatric hospital in the region. This not-for-profit facility just went through a $36 million-dollar renovation to continue its ability to fulfill its commitment to the community’s healthcare needs. The emergency service includes a Level I trauma center and Level II pediatric center. This facility sees 24,000 patients annually.
