Meridian Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204Interview: Webcam onlyThis position will develop community-based prevention initiatives to enhanceopportunities for resilience for children and families impacted by childhoodtrauma utilizing evidence-based and trauma-informed prevention strategies.OverviewThis position serves as the Trauma Informed Communities Program Coordinatorwithin the Division of Fatality Review and Prevention (FRP) at the IndianaDepartment of Health (IDOH).The purpose of this position is to utilize evidence-based strategies andprogramming to address the social, emotional, and developmental impacts ofchildhood trauma, enhancing capacities to support youth through atrauma-sensitive framework, and reduce adverse impacts associated with childhoodtrauma through 1.) the identification of at-risk youth exposed to childhoodtrauma, and 2.) the adoption of trauma-sensitive strategies to support positiveeducational outcomes and reduce youth risk of juvenile justice involvement.Applicants with prior experience working with Indiana’s criminal justice systemand youth prevention programming are encouraged to apply.The Trauma Informed Communities Programs Coordinator will provide oversight andtechnical assistance statewide to support the Handle with Care program. Handlewith Care enhances community efforts to support children exposed to violence andcrime through a collaborative approach identifying at-risk children andconnecting to early intervention to mitigate risks associated with AdverseChildhood Experiences. This position will develop and support othercommunity-based prevention initiatives to enhance opportunities for resiliencefor children and families impacted by childhood trauma utilizing evidence-basedand trauma-informed prevention strategies.Technical assistance, data collection, training, public speaking, and meetingfacilitation are requirements of this position. This position will also supportprogram needs relating to contract development, monitoring of federal and statebudgets, quarterly and annual reports, strategic plan development, and creationof prevention materials. This position contributes to theIDOH/Commission/Office/Division vision, mission, and objectives by facilitatingthe integration of public health and prevention activities to improve the healthof Hoosiers.This position is funded through 12/31/2024 but is anticipated to be renewed foran additional year.Duties * Connect recommendations and prevention strategies from state and local child fatality review teams relating to schools. * Develop evidence-based prevention initiatives based on state and local data. * Create prevention materials to support education and awareness. * Provide technical assistance to local communities, including schools and law enforcement agencies, implementing the Handle with Care program. * Identify and coordinate trauma-informed trainings for all relevant sectors and community partners. * Assist with data collection strategies through local partners for effective evaluation of program outcomes. * Establish and maintain high-level collaborative relationships with potential state and local partners. * Present on trauma informed strategies and initiatives at local and state conferences. * Develop and maintain program policies and procedures. * Generate reports, including annual reports and strategic plans. * Attend trainings and conferences to stay up to date on current literature and recommendations on trauma informed initiatives and research. * Encourage cross collaboration to achieve state, IDOH, and FRP goals and objectives. * Champion an equity-driven approach to program improvement. * Respond to program requests from IDOH upper management. * Perform other duties as assigned.Job RequirementsA bachelor’s degree in a public health-related or similar field, such as healthpromotion, health communication, health education, social work, or public healthis preferred.Additional requirements include: * Ability to facilitate meetings. * Ability to engage communities and stakeholders. * Highly motivated and able to take initiative. * Outstanding organizational skills. * Ability to work independently and as a team member. * Ability to coordinate and maintain effective working relationships. * Demonstrated ability to work independently to complete tasks. * Demonstrated experience with managing multiple ongoing projects while successfully completing assignments. * Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet program deadlines. * Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint * Ability to communicate extremely well verbally and in writing, especially to prepare written and oral reports and presentations that communicate necessary information to internal and external partners.Difficulty of WorkIncumbent must be able to think critically and have the analytical ability todevelop and enhance systems to acquire the best strategies for prevention.Incumbent must be able to work within program guidelines and within establishedtimeframes. Incumbent must be able to resolve problems,logically develop ideas, interpret policy, and have superb oral and writtenskills.This position requires travel to meetings state-wide and for engagement work incommunities.Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.ResponsibilityIncumbent has a high-level responsibility for ensuring compliance with state andfederal grant requirements and adherence to IDOH and FRP goals and objectives.The position will serve as the program’s liaison to schools, mental healthproviders, law enforcement agencies, and other youth-serving and justiceagencies. This position will be responsible for facilitating community meetingsand developing written reports, grant proposals, and other documentationpertaining to prevention programs.This position will report to the Trauma Informed Communities Programs Directorof the Fatality Review and Prevention Division. The Incumbent will keep theDirector informed regarding matters that may impact the goals, vision, andmission of the program. Incumbent will receive some instruction from theDirector, but independent judgement is critical for daily operations. Incumbentmust follow the program policies and procedures and manage their time tocomplete assignments within established timeframes. Incumbent will apply HIPAAand FERPA policies where applicable and maintain confidentiality whencommunicating with program partners.Work Relationships:Incumbent will maintain contact with the Trauma Informed Communities ProgramsDirector, the FRP Division Director, FRP Staff, IDOH Executive Staff, and otherIDOH Division Staff. Incumbent will work with Division Staff, public, state, andfederal representatives, and other stakeholders in the public and privatesectors for the purpose of developing and monitoring effective development ofprevention program activities. Work may be reviewed by various program staff forcompliance with policy and agency program goals.Physical Effort:The position is primarily a desk job with occasional in-state travel to aid intechnical assistance, trainings, and attend conference and planning events. Workis performed in an office or remote environment for 7.5 hours per day fromMonday through Friday. This position requires extensive computer use and theability to be mobile in small, confined spaces. Incumbent must be able to liftand transport boxes and education materials, as necessary.Working Conditions:Work is performed in a HIPAA covered, limited access office environment thatcontains a constant and moderate level of background phone conversation.Incumbent must be able to concentrate under these conditions. Significantin-state travel is required. Working directly with communities is required.
