Position Title: Lead Trauma Registrar
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM EST
Desired Traits and Experience
- Experienced Trauma Registrar.
- AIS 2015/ICD-10 coding required.
- Experience with trauma database systems, such as Trauma Base Registry, preferred.
Position Summary
The Lead Trauma Registrar oversees the trauma services clinical database (Trauma Registry). Responsibilities include:
- Data collection, analysis, entry, completion, and validation for all patients meeting inclusion criteria in the trauma registry.
- Submission of trauma center data to relevant regulatory and internal entities to maintain trauma center designation.
- Ensuring data concurrency, accuracy, and compliance with governing rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Training, motivating, and monitoring Trauma Registrars to maximize their capabilities.
- Coordinating with the Trauma Program Director to support program goals and reporting requirements.
Position Requirements
Licensure/Certification:
- Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) within two years of employment required.
- Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialist (CAISS) preferred.
Education:
- High school diploma required.
- Associate degree in a health-related field or two years of relevant work experience emphasizing data integrity and analysis preferred.
- Completion of medical terminology courses essential.
- Completion of the American Trauma Society's Trauma Register Course and the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine's Abbreviated Injury Scaling Course highly preferred.
Experience:
- Previous Trauma Registry experience required.
- Report-writing skills highly preferred.
- Proficiency in trauma coding (AIS/ISS & ICD-10) strongly recommended.
- Strong computer skills, particularly with data management tools and software (e.g., Word, Excel).
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Self-directed with initiative and the ability to work independently.
Supervision Level
This role involves general guidance from Coordinators, Managers, and the Department Director. Most duties are performed independently, adhering to established policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged sitting and standing may be required.

This position requires competency in data collection related to the following patient age groups:
- Birth to 1 Year (Infant)
- 1 to 12 Years (Pediatric/Child)
- 13 to 18 Years (Adolescent)
- 19 to 65 Years (Adult)
- 65 Years (Geriatric)
Working Conditions
- Work environment includes hospital offices, common areas, clinical departments, and hospital grounds.
- Possible exposure to:
- Blood or body fluids (frequent).
- Communicable diseases (some).
- Repetitive motions (frequent).
- Extended sitting (very frequent).
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- PPE such as gloves, masks, and safety glasses may be required during certain tasks.
