OVERVIEW
The Transportation Procurement Analyst creates capacity solutions to meet the needs of General Mills’ businesses by partnering with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategies. The Procurement Analyst will work directly with Operations team members, Digital and Technology partners, and external suppliers to create regional and national strategies that deliver value through superior service, reliability, and cost competitiveness. This role will involve direct supplier engagement and negotiation.
This role falls under the Procurement Manager who is responsible for procurement activity supporting Over the Road, Intermodal, LTL, and Rail modes including execution and implementation of RFPs.
General Mills seeks to build and develop technical expertise in this role and because of that, we would anticipate for this applicant to be in the role for 18-24 months before being able to move.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Partner with Operations team to develop Regional and National capacity strategies and solutions to support the needs of our Business
- Act as a liaison between internal teams to support, collaborate, and appropriately represent Procurement strategies.
- Understand and analyze transportation market intelligence tools to help drive procurement strategies and processes.
- Assist in developing negotiation strategies and leading negotiations with external transportation providers.
- Collecting and analyzing large amounts of data and formatting the data to generate a desired outcome.
- Develop knowledge of General Mills (GMI) carrier network and strategies to influence Procurement activities.
- Manage monthly and ad-hoc Requests for Proposals (RFPs) with GMI’s contracted carriers to provide capacity solutions for our Regional Operations Managers
- Understand and apply (Transportation Management System) TMS capabilities and business needs to support and create solutions given business needs
- Manage data in Transportation Management System (TMS) and SAP to ensure systems are properly reflecting intended strategies (transit times, carrier allocations, etc.).
- Aid in the development and execution of TMS tender strategies
- Create and manage KPI reporting around productivity of team (SharePoint requests, rate issue resolution, etc.).
- Manage Procurement Outlook inbox which acts as a contact source for internal and external partners
- Manage and organize Procurement’s SharePoint site and Ops requests
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Business, Logistics, Operations Management, or Transportation)
- 2-3 years of transportation procurement, logistics management or other related fields
- Negotiation process and tactics experience as well as experience executing negotiations
- Experience executing RFP’s either from a customer or carrier perspective
- Strong leadership, influencing, organizational and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage across organizational boundaries
- Deep knowledge of MS Excel and ability to synthesize data
- Ability to influence external and internal partners to enable business results
- Project management and continuous improvement experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Analysis for Office (AFO), SAP, & TMS
- Understanding of data management and presentation
- Understanding of the transportation market
- Experience using transportation market intelligence tools
