Description
The Transportation Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the daily activities of our drivers across the state. This position works hand in hand with our drivers, customers, and other members of the Riggs team to ensure timely delivery and pickup of equipment in the field.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Manage and coordinate the scheduling and dispatching of drivers to deliver and pick up heavy equipment
- Assist in preparing and maintaining driver records as required
- Ensure all company and DOT required logs and records are up to date and timely recorded
- Communicating with customers about freight details, delivery or pickup times, and special handling requests.
- Planning pre-determined routes and accommodating route changes as needed.
- Preparing dispatch documents, as well as generating appropriate paperwork – ensuring all load permits are ordered and secured
- Maintaining records of dispatched calls, driver routes, route changes, as well as delivery and pickup times.
- Keeping track of transportation regulations and laws to ensure that truck drivers comply.
- Reviewing drivers’ logs, including dispatched calls and arrival times.
- Monitoring truck repairs and maintenance schedules.
Requirements
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- High school diploma and/or one to three years related experience and/or training
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents, procedures, and schematics
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Basic math abilities including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages and discounts.
- Knowledge and experience in transportation industry
- Availability to work hours that are normally regular business hours, but weekend, holiday and evening work may be required to get a job completed on time.
- Ability to recognize high and low priority items and adjust accordingly
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Standing, walking and meeting activities are required frequently throughout the workday. Employee must be able to process paperwork and utilize office equipment (including computer, phone, etc.). A large portion of the day is spent communicating orally in person and by phone. Normal sight or corrected vision is required to read documents and use standard computer equipment and programs.
