Job Description
CDM Smith has an exciting opportunity for a national Transportation Director.
This position will be responsible for leading our national Transportation Group’s (TTG) sales team to achieve profitable growth in line with our short- and long-term growth strategies and market opportunities and leading our TTG’s P&L and all operational elements, including project delivery capabilities, while providing an exceptional client experience through quality project delivery. This position will report to the North America Unit President and will work closely with our Technical Services Unit.
The successful candidate will:
Develop and implement the long-term strategic sales plan for TTG to achieve the firm’s strategic growth goals.
Routinely assess the market to review, approve, monitor, and perform corrective actions as necessary on subordinate sales management’s annual sales plan including volume, type of service, and selected clients.
Ensure all team member’s pursuits and proposals follow the sales process (e.g., Wins), and receive appropriate sign-off (per sales process policies), including risk management committee approval, before presenting proposals to the client.
Conducts regular check-ins with clients on high enterprise risk or strategically important projects to determine client satisfaction. Based on client feedback, ensures collaboration with the delivery team to adjust project delivery approach, team and/or other related aspects of the project.
Ensure alignment between sales pursuit financial/profit targets and business unit’s financial/profit targets.
Review and manage firm’s risk related to proposal contract language as part of review process and ensures that risk and associated profitability are balanced in proposal submissions.
Lead, coach, develop, and mentor the national Transportation Group.
Collaborate with financial leads to develop forecasting, budgeting, and resource management.
Drive P&L performance through revenue, profitability, and cash management to meet or exceed budgeted values.
Evaluate overall project management compliance with the firm’s risk management policies, procedures, and requirements.
Develop and implement critical contracting strategies to maximize the firm’s position and reputation as well as financial performance.
Manage the contract execution and project delivery process.
Foster effective and constructive communication of successes and lessons learned.
Instill the values of work product quality and client satisfaction throughout TTG.
Champion the business case for change.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
15 years of relevant experience
Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
May be required to relocate to support business needs.
Equivalent additional related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
