Knudtsen Chevrolet is seeking an experienced Transmission Technician to join the Knudtsen Team. Knudtsen is a family-owned and operated company that provides the community with new and used cars, a full-service body shop and service department, as well as Genuine GM Parts. Wage Range: $36.00 - $50.00/flat rate hour ($75,000 - $150,000/ year. Earnings are dependent on proficiency.

Responsibilities
The Transmission Technician is responsible for correctly and efficiently diagnosing and repairing vehicle components in accordance with factory and dealership specifications, ensuring that each completed vehicle meets or exceeds established quality and safety standards, thus providing excellent customer service. You would be essential to the timeliness of returning vehicles back to their owners and should take great pride in your finished product. Continued training would be provided.
Performs transmission repair as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory time allowances and standards.
Diagnose the cause of malfunction and perform work as outlined on the repair order. Accurately document all work performed and recommended.
Examines vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required.
Advises service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be made.
Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
Saves and tags parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by the customer.
Installs repaired transmission, replaces fluids and makes appropriate adjustments.
Road tests vehicle when required or refers to test technician.
Attends manufacturer-sponsored training classes.
Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
Inspect assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended – may include road tests.
Clearly communicate with service advisor if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time and assume role of service advisor to write repair orders and work with customers as needed.
Connect with the Parts Department to obtain needed parts and reports status of parts to service advisor.
Use approved repair techniques and materials to recondition each vehicle to pre-accident condition.
Reports machinery defects or malfunctions and maintains all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Operate all tools and equipment safely.
Complete manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events as requested. Keep up to date on technical bulletins.
Determine, independently when needed, what additional work is necessary (i.e., bulbs, filter, brakes, etc.) and complete the work when cost is <$1000. If costs exceed that limit, hold additional repairs until the Service Manager can be consulted.
Keeps shop area neat and clean.
Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Able to perform day-to-day service activities in a technician environment.
Have at least 2 years’ experience working as GM Technician and provide his/her own tools. Must be able to furnish GM Training records.
Previous experience as a general electrical, transmission, and/or diesel technician is required.
Be able to lift up to fifty (50) lbs without assistance and stand, sit, bend, and twist for extended periods of time on concrete.
Have strong attention to detail and be organized.
A self-motivated team player that is able to communicate effectively with team members and works well with other technicians and service advisors.
Experience writing repair orders.
Have a valid driver's license and able to drive both automatic and manual vehicles
Pass a motor vehicle report and possess a safe driving record.
Pass a criminal background check and drug test. Also subject to random drug testing at the company's request.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORKING ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work standing up, walk, use hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment, and speak and listen, both over the phone and in person to customers and fellow employees, in order to perform the above listed duties. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to work in a seated position, climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 20 - 70 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Team Members regularly works 40 or more hours per week. You have your choice of schedule, either a 3 day work week with 12 hours shifts, or a 4 day work week with 10 hour shifts. While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and chemicals. Frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions and combustibles. Fast paced working environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
