Transmission and Distribution Line Design Engineer - MKEC Engineering

We're looking for a Transmission and Distribution Line Design Engineer to join our Electric Utility Design team at our Overland Park location (in office).

Responsibilities:

• Develop Transmission and Distribution (T&D) line construction design packages from project start to finish
• Perform analysis, complete detailed calculations, and develop reports and estimates.
• Verify and review right-of-way requirements.
• Develop conceptual/feasibility studies, cost estimates, design drawings, structure elevation drawings and details, site routings, physical designs, clearances, material specifications, bills of materials, bid documents, etc.
• Use industry-standard design tools including the PLS-CADD software suite (including PLS-POLE) and Osmose O-Calc Pro.
• Perform QA/QC on other's work as required, reviewing for completeness and accuracy.
• Manage multiple projects within prescribed time frames.
• Effectively communicate design requirements and collaborate with other disciplines of the company including structural, civil, survey, etc.
• Attend client meetings to ensure the design meets their needs and objectives.

Requirements:

• B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• PE license in Kansas preferred (or the ability to obtain the license in a timely manner).
• 5-7 years of experience in the electric power industry.
• Experience with the modeling, analysis, and design of T&D lines and structures – 345kV and below.
• Skilled in the design of wood, laminated, and steel structures.
• Knowledgeable of applicable codes and standards including the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Standards, and other applicable industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, CSA, IEC, ASCE, etc.).
• Experience with other related software tools such as LPILE, MFAD, ArcGIS, ETAP, Milsoft WindMil, and SKM Power Tools is preferred.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to handle multiple project tasks. Excellent presentation, written communication, time management, and organizational skills are required.
• Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines, be self-directed, exhibit good business judgment, and handle confidential information appropriately.
• Occasional travel for site visits and client meetings may be required.
