The position is located in Ak Chin, AZ.
Position Summary:
Under close supervision, provides safe transportation of program clients to and from designated activities.
The work is normally reviewed in progress and upon completion of each assignment to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformance to established standards; most aspects of the work tasks are covered by detailed instructions or procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspects vehicles daily to include: tires, gas, oil, water, brake and transmission levels, to ensure safety of operation.
- Performs safety checks on vehicles to include: operable brake lights, turn signals, tire pressure, spare tire, first aid kit, and emergency road kit.
- Checks the condition on all operating parts of vehicles, to include: tires, lights, brakes, windshield wipers and arranges for repairs as needed.
- Maintains vehicle cleanliness by washing and cleaning as needed.
- Provides transportation for individuals to and from designated locations, safely and efficiently.
- Assists passengers as needed.
- Transports passengers irrespective of weather, traffic and road conditions.
- Maintains log or schedule of activities as required.
- Maintains accurate documentation related to mileage, consumption of gas, oil, route details and other service related products.
- Prepares and completes vehicle reports as required; documents vehicle issues.
- Participates in in-service training as required.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.

- Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
- Knowledge of rules of the road and road signage.
- Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham Nation's district roads and routes.
- Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
- Skill in driving through all traffic and weather conditions.
- Ability to drive safely and efficiently.
- Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.
- Ability to use a variety of hand tools in performing minor maintenance on assigned vehicles.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Ability to maintain privileged confidential information.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
- Ability to travel within the interior/exterior boundaries of the Tohono O'odham Nation.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma and six months work experience as a driver, or an equivalent combination of work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work duties.
Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:
- HTS DRIVERS ONLY: Must pass a pre-employment physical examination form (HRP 252) upon recommendation of hire.
- Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of hire.
- Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
- May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
- If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
- Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
