The Transformation Sensei will embrace the Yale culture while helping to drive it to a higher level of performance and be committed to supporting Care Signature across the Enterprise. In conjunction with the leadership team, the Sensei serves as a champion for enterprise transformation. They lead broad-scale projects to align the operating model by working with management, staff, and clinicians using performance improvement methodologies to achieve goals. Takes a lead in the development and coordination of training activities and efforts for all levels within Yale Health related to the operating model, high-reliability, and performance improvement methodologies.

- 1. Leads, facilitates, and executes projects through lean principles to improve performance across YNHHS that is sustainable.
- 2. Influences and communicates with all levels of clinical and operational management concerning team goals and progress.
- 3. Trains and mentors managers and other clinical leaders on the philosophy, methodologies, application, and tools of performance improvement and high reliability.
- 4. Independently develops detailed project plan to support YNHHS-wide collaboratives to reduce variation and standardize clinical care and operational effectiveness according to best practices.
- 5. Supports operations by developing appropriate information systems to support integrated clinical and operational data analysis and where relevant, financial data.
- 6. Develops an operating model, and performance improvement curriculum.
- 7. Assist with the development of a standard daily management system for the organization and project manages the roll-out and execution of the daily management system.
- 8. Coach, guide and train organizational leaders, improvement teams, and individuals to adopt the Yale operating model and daily management system.
- 9. Independently leads departmental initiatives and mentors' leaders and committees to provide performance improvement input through reduced variation and standard work processes.
- 10. Makes focused recommendations relative to the operational management across system service lines, departments, and divisions.
- 11. Functions as a lean/performance improvement consultant to other departments; as well as YNHHS delivery networks and service lines.
- 12. Facilitates meetings with senior leadership across departments and /or delivery networks to ensure alignment of quality improvement and safety tools and methodologies.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in business, nursing, pharmacy, or other numerous related fields. Master's degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in lean management is required. Prior work in healthcare is required.
LICENSURE
Lean certification (Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Lean Expert, Lean Master or equivalent) preferred. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) by the National Association for Healthcare Quality is required within 2 years.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Must have working knowledge and experience applying lean business principles with a documented history of successful implementation and sustainment of improvement. Experience in statistics, analysis, and clinical quality is required. Training experience is required. Solid understanding of various improvement methodologies, change management strategies, and high reliability required. Experience working with all levels of an organization required, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong computer skills including Excel and PowerPoint. Passion for patient-focused quality improvement; Must be a patient-oriented team player with the flexibility to adapt to evolving priorities.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Must be able to travel to various sites across the health system. Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
