Transfer Coordinator - Full time - Days - OakBend Medical Center

The Transfer Coordinator facilitates the inter-hospital transfer of patients from outside affiliates as well as other hospitals into the OakBend Medical Center system. Receives transfer requests from physicians, affiliate represent or families. Information includes demographic, insurance and clinical diagnosis. Assigns appropriate hospital bed for transferred patients to the OakBend Medical Center System.  Arranges for appropriate ambulance dispatch based on patient acuity (BLS, ACLS, and Critical Care Medic) for outgoing transfers to other locations based upon the patient level of care necessary. Identifies, analyzes, organizes, and solves problems and issues in a timely, effective manner and collaborates with others to make sound, timely decisions. Responsible to ensure staffing levels remain in the approved grids for the respective units when departmental Directors and Senior Executive Leadership is not present on campus.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

High School Graduate or equivalent, relevant experience in lieu of High School Diploma/GED education will be considered.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:

Hospital experience required; in critical care unit highly preferred.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Any one of the following:

• Certified as a Nursing Assistant by the Texas Department of Health (CNA); or
• Certified Medical Assistant; or
• Certified or Licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); or
• Licensed Paramedic; or
• Completion of U.S. Military Hospital Corpsman training
• Experience or education in lieu of certification/license:
• Nursing student having completed fundamentals of nursing (LVN or RN); or
• Completion of Patient Care Technician program; or
• Graduate of a foreign nursing program with nursing credentials/licensure in country of origin

Certified in BLS through the American Heart Association also required.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

Computer skills; interpersonal skills; critical thinking/problem solving skills. Type 35 WPM.
