About the Job
Job Purpose:
Transports raw materials and commodities by determining modes of transportation and routing.
Duties:
* Directs transportation of raw materials and commodities by developing methods and procedures for transportation of raw materials to processing and production areas and commodities from departments to customers and warehouses.
* Determines routing and method of transportation by studying tariff manuals and motor freight and railroad guidebooks.
* Controls scheduling of shipments by notifying departments or customers of arrival dates.
* Protects shipments by investigating causes of damages or shortages in consignments or overcharges for freight or insurance.
* Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
* Provides information by answering questions and requests.
* Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
* Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
* Maintains inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
* Maintains traffic department staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
* Maintains traffic department staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
* Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
