Job Summary: The Trading Post Director is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the Trading Post at camp. This role involves managing staff, money, and inventory, coordinating activities, maintaining facilities and equipment, and ensuring a high-quality experience for all campers.
Season Dates:
- Directors' Week: 6/8/25-6/14/25
- Staff Development Week: 6/15/25-6/21/25
- Week 1: 6/22/25-6/28/25
- Week 2: 6/29/25-7/5/25
- Week 3: 7/6/25-7/12/25
- Week 4: 7/13/25-7/19/25
- Week 5: 7/20/25-7/26/25
- Week 6: 7/27/25-8/2/25 (Dependent program finalization)
Wage - $615.00-635.00 per week after R&B of $45.00/week
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the camp trading post, including sales, customer service, and inventory management.
- Manage the selection, pricing, and display of merchandise, ensuring the trading post is well-stocked and appealing.
- Train and supervise trading post staff, providing guidance in retail operations and customer service.
- Maintain accurate financial records, including sales tracking, cash handling, and budget management.
- Provide Camp Management with order requests for merchandise and supplies
- Implement effective merchandising and promotional strategies to maximize sales.
- Ensure the trading post adheres to all camp policies and health regulations.
- Handle customer inquiries and resolve any issues or complaints.
- Collaborate with camp leadership to align trading post operations with overall camp objectives.
- Support overall operations of Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley and the Scouting America, Orange County Council.
- Submit an end of summer report

- This job requires the use of hands to handle, control or feel objects or tools.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move moderate to heavy objects, which requires frequent and proper bending.
- The employee must frequently be on their feet walking and hiking for distances up to 4 miles at a time.
- Employees must be able to lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted.
- This position requires the employee to work outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions as well as dust, pollen, plant life, insects, and wildlife.
Qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older
- Experience in retail work
- Experience in customer service.
- Available to work all summer
- Ability to live on site during the summer season working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as program scheduling requires.
- Have or be willing to obtain membership in Scouting America
- Have or be willing to obtain Live Scan background check.
- All camp staff must have a completed annual physical done by a medical provider prior to the start of the summer camp season
- Summer camp experience preferred
