Position Overview:
We are seeking a bright and detail-oriented Trader to join our Investment Team with a strong desire to learn. The Trader will be responsible for centrally executing trades for a range of portfolio types, including stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, and bonds. This role requires deep knowledge of capital markets, excellent execution skills, and a focus on ensuring best execution and compliance with the firm's investment strategy and fiduciary standards.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Valeo Investment Team, Research Analysts, and Compliance teams to ensure seamless execution and efficient management of client portfolios.
This position requires in-person office attendance and is based in our Carmel, Indiana headquarters.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Trade Execution:
- Execute and manage trades for stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, and bonds in client portfolios in a timely, cost-effective manner and in compliance with internal policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with Investment Team and Advisors to understand portfolio changes and rebalancing needs.
- Monitor market conditions and ensure best execution practices across asset classes.
Portfolio Management Support:
- Collaborate with portfolio managers to implement investment strategies and execute trades in line with the firm’s investment objectives.
- Maintain trade records and documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and firm policies.
Market Monitoring & Analysis:
- Track market trends, news, and economic data to inform trading decisions.
- Monitor liquidity and market impact of trades across asset classes, adjusting trading strategies as necessary.
Risk Management & Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to risk management protocols, compliance guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Continuously evaluate and manage execution costs, tracking slippage, spreads, and other performance metrics.
Operational Efficiency:
- Manage trade reconciliation processes and work with operations teams to ensure accurate settlement of trades.
- Liaise with custodians, brokers, and counterparties to ensure timely and accurate execution of trades.
Technology & Trading Platforms:
- Utilize and optimize our rebalancing software, Tamarac, to streamline trade execution and reporting.
- Stay up to date with technological advancements in trading systems and platforms to maintain an efficient trading process.
Desired Qualifications:
- A degree in Business Finance, Mathematics and/or Engineering.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in finance, math and/or engineering.
- Expertise in capital markets, executing trades and managing portfolios, Stocks, ETFs, Mutual Funds and Bonds.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess market conditions and implement effective trading strategies.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with trading platforms (e.g., mainly Tamarac and Bloomberg) and order management systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong knowledge of compliance and regulatory guidelines (e.g., SEC, FINRA, etc.) as they relate to trading.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and trading-related software.
