Position Summary:
The Export and Trade Compliance Specialist supports the trade compliance department relating to policy and procedure maintenance, training, management of licenses and other authorizations, and filing obligations under the U.S. export regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR), and Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Trade Compliance Administration: 70%
- Support trade compliance personnel regarding proposed exports and activities, including jurisdiction determination, classification, licensing requirements, and exemption or exception applicability, screening parties to transactions against denied parties lists, creating and submitting applications, technical assistance agreements, and other export control documentation, as necessary, and administer and oversee compliance with conditions and provisos of such authorizations.
- Support the trade compliance team with export and import shipping documentation, including HTS/Schedule B classification of ECCNs or USML Categories, license numbers, or exemption documentation; and file or cause to be filed any for export licenses through SNAP-R and DECCS, filing ACE Electronic Export Information records, creating commercial invoices, decrementing licenses, and maintaining export records.
- Assist in managing the company's SNAP-R and ACE accounts, including monitoring of licenses and authorizations, tracking license conditions compliance, and submission of reports as required by the relevant U.S. government agency.
- Work with external customers, vendors, freight forwarders, custom brokers, government agencies, and other functions to support compliance, as directed.
- Review and approve affiliate visit requests relating to the potential transfer or export of export-controlled information.
- Maintain and grow knowledge of regulations applicable to U.S. export, import, and trade sanctions regulations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of company procedures and instructions designed to support compliance with U.S. export, import, and trade sanctions regulations.
- Training, Audits, and Investigations: 30%
- Support the trade compliance management team in delivering, tracking, and monitoring training related to compliance with U.S. export, import, and trade sanctions regulations, including focused training to applicable functional support staff, and export license and agreement training to business line and program personnel.
- Assist with internal investigations and compliance assessments, M&A due diligence, and internal and external audits, as assigned.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate discipline such as international business, management, or engineering. Relevant experience may substitute for the required education
Experience:
- Must possess a minimum of 1-3 years' experience in international trade compliance
- Experience with a defense-related company in an export control or compliance position is strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
- Strong working knowledge of the ACE, SNAP-R, and DECCS tools
- Strong knowledge of ITAR, EAR, and Office of Foreign Assets Control regulations
- Solution-oriented issue-spotting, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter with the ability to meet or exceed deadlines, prioritize, multi-task, and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment
Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Technical Systems Proficiency:
- Must possess proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office
Travel Required:
- 5% Domestic and International
Citizenship:
- Must be a US Person, as defined by the US export control regulations, and eligible to receive and handle controlled unclassified information
Decision Making, Complexity:
- Determine authorization requirements- support preparation and submission of export licenses to the U.S. government
- Decision-making on denied party screening
- Support and participate in assessments/audits
- Support determination of export jurisdiction and classification of hardware, software, and technology

- Be a trusted partner by deploying clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication to guide the business to integrate compliance into daily business operations.
- Work with the trade compliance management team to ensure export control is involved early and as needed as the business lifecycle progresses to avoid unnecessary blocking points later in the program execution.
- Ensure the company maintains records of hardware and technical data exports and files Electronic Export Information as required.
