About the Job
The Tooling Engineer I will be responsible for designing, reviewing, and improving mold designs, creating, reviewing and approving 2D/3D CAD drawings, injection molding process improvements, performs research, design, and development of the manufacturing processes. This includes tooling life cycle management.
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, this role will primarily be based out of our Monroe Township, NJ facility with travel to our Neptune City, NJ facility on an as-needed basis.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
- Creating 2D/3D CAD drawings, preferably with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.
- Design of injection-molding tooling, management of tooling fabrication process.
- Provide technical support to production regarding processing issues and quality problems due to material, machine, process, or tooling issues.
- Create and improve injection-molding and extrusion machinery.
- Understand molding materials along with material preparation, handling, and machine rheology.
- Analyze manufacturing data, production, and machinery lines to suggest improvements.
- Develop and design engineered plastic parts, insert molded parts, and assemblies and edible parts.
- Interact with customers, suppliers, and internal resources.
- Establish the parameters for an optimal molding environment and design necessary components.
- Analyze quality control data and utilize to correct flaws and defects. Document mold and machine information for process sheets and troubleshooting information.
- Review existing validation reports while maintaining CAD files and updates.
- Create new reports and verifications. Research and develop new manufacturing processes.
- Analyze mold flow, part advisor analysis, finite element analysis, and stress/fatigue analysis on plastics.
- Design hot/cold runner molds, develop 3D solid mold designs, and prepare mold-filling simulations.
- Create water diagrams and hot runner wiring schematics.
- Work with vendors to provide new molds, Hot Runner platforms, and repairing molds due to damage or quality issues along with spare parts.
- Provide purchase requisitions for purchases, control finances, and coordinate purchases, deliveries and follow-up with other departments.
- Work with the Research and Development and Marketing groups on new projects/parts through mold design and quotes and the printing of 3D parts for evaluation and review.
- Other duties as assigned.
IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES:
- Minimum 5 years Plastic Injection Mold Experience.
- Must have critical thinking skills, desire to improve processes, and ability to take ownership of activities.
- BS degree in engineering or 5 years of experience in mold tooling design.
- Knowledge and working understanding of tool construction and corrective/repair recommendations.
- Extensive experience in the design and development of high cavitation thermos-plastic injection molds.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for dealing with all levels of staff, customers, suppliers, and operations.
- Hands on experience with CAD software and MS Office.
- Demonstrated success handling multiple priorities and working in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with lean manufacturing and change management preferred.
