Tool and Die Technician at Toyota Boshoku

About the Job
Primary Job Function: Support the manufacturing areas with plant focus on minimizing down time, increasing productivity and maintain the overall Toyota Production System as well as company policies/procedures. As a tool and die technician, you would repair and maintain progressive and transfer stamping tools. This position is excellent for a Tool & Die Maker with exceptional technical expertise and a positive, team-oriented attitude looking to work for a company where they can grow and hone their skills.
II. Primary Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
Support production to ensure tools are ready for production.
Make the repairs and improvements on stamping dies/ fixtures /weld cells/swage machines.
Use manual tools to repair and maintain stamping progressive and transfer dies.
Use manual and automatic surface grinders to complete the required work.
Measure and make the required shims to ensure proper timing of the die is maintained.
Weld and repair worn or broken die details.
Use of an overhead crane to move and flip dies daily.
Troubleshoot parts when quality issues arise and adjust dies to improve the part condition.
Verify work in spotting press to ensure work is correct.
Troubleshoot die while in the press and complete repairs as needed.
Complete predictive PMs on progressive and transfer dies.
Work with other Journeyman Tool & Die makers to complete the required task.
Maintain work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition.
Document completion of all required processes in Asset Essentials system.
Read technical drawings / blue prints.
Use precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, height gauge, to check the tool's dimensions to insure accurate part quality.
Must have personal tools to complete tasks as required (Tool box, micrometers, calipers, depth mics, square 1 2 3 blocks, squares, allen wrenches, impact gun and various other hand tools etc.).
Work with the Engineering department to improve processes.
Utilize TPS (Toyota Production System) techniques, as trained according to the training plan, to standardize process/methods, identify waste, methodically eliminate waste and standardize the new process/methods.
Maintain daily 5S, as a component of TPS, in the work area and with assigned equipment.
Understand and follow the TB Way philosophy, as trained according to the training plan, and adhere to the philosophy within a team-oriented environment.
Work beyond the regular schedule, which could include daily and weekend overtime, as required to meet the Just-In-Time demands of the plant.

III. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Tool and Die certificate/diploma or equivalent experience required.
Experience:
5 years Tool & Die Progressive die experience required.
2-5 years' experience in welding required.
2-5 years' experience with CAD, CNC programming a plus.
Experience drawing & programming with MasterCam a plus.
CNC, Machine shop, and Kaizen experience a plus.
Personal/Technical Skills:
Ability and Willingness to participate in additional training as needed and identified by the Tool Room Supervision.
Good problem solving and analytical skills.
Flexibility in a changing working environment.
Good math and communication skills.
Experience with precision measuring equipment.
Must be able to work a fixed or rotating shift schedule, including daily or weekend overtime.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong customer service orientation.
Ability to consistently show and maintain professionalism.

IV. Work Environment/Conditions:
Plant:
Standard automotive plant environment with high decibel noise levels, flashing lights, and alarms/notification systems. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses, safety toe shoes, hearing protection, etc. may be required in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial areas. Personal attire standards may apply.
II. Physical Demands:
Capable of standing 100% of time and must be able bend, walk, & to lift up to 30 pounds.
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently required to grip tools and objects, stretch and/or reach with hands and arms; using hands to finger, handle, feel, twist, walk, twisting (standing), bend at the waist, and do repetitive motions. The team member must occasionally kneel, work from heights and crouch. The team member must frequently lift and/or move five to fifteen pounds. The team member must regularly lift twenty to thirty pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over thirty pounds with the assistance of a cart, pallet jack, other mechanical device or another team member. While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear.
