We are currently seeking a Traffic Maintenance Crew Leader in Rock Springs, Wyoming to accomplish the District Traffic Strategic Plan by supervising the District 3 Signing Crew work operations, which includes the maintenance and proper installation of signs in order to provide a safe, high quality, dependable, and efficient transportation system to the traveling public on two-lane state highways and interstates. Rock Springs is the 5th largest city in Wyoming and known for outdoor activities such as fishing, biking, hiking, golfing as well as activities at the nearby Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
- Supervises the highway maintenance operations of a crew and assigns daily activities according to the overall work plan determined by the Traffic Maintenance Supervisor II.
- Schedules crew members for shifts and on-call coverage, assigns labor and equipment.
- Identifies training needs of subordinate crew members; ensures training is completed; may conduct training for leads and technicians; responsible for employee hiring, coaching, and development; communicates with human resources regarding disciplinary actions and recruitment needs.
- Conducts performance appraisals for crew members; ensures crew members have access to computers to complete appraisals and required online training.
- Responsible for the upkeep, service, and scheduling of equipment repairs for their crew.
- Responsible for deciding the type of equipment used by the crew to accomplish the job at hand; provides guidance to crew on how to perform an unfamiliar or irregular method.
- Orders and maintains materials and inventory; communicates needs for high-dollar purchases to the Highway Maintenance Supervisor II.
- Utilizes the computer to accurately record work orders, employee time cards, and material usage in agency systems; records crew’s work accomplishments.
- Monitors project budgets and progress, inspects projects according to state and federal quality standards, and assesses road sections and associated infrastructure for needed repair/maintenance; communicates unplanned maintenance to area supervisor.
- Ensures crews are working safely and according to established safety policies and procedures; conducts daily safety briefings and lines out precautions for each work activity; ensures crew members have the appropriate protective gear prior to the start of the operation.
- Builds and maintains positive working relationships amongst crew members, local landowners, and the public; communicate ongoing traffic control operations, and hazardous situations to the public when necessary.
- Maintains ongoing and open communication with Highway Maintenance Supervisors and district staff to ensure work is completed efficiently and safely across the overall district and statewide.
