GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is an agency committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. We are currently seeking a Highway Maintenance Specialist I for the Maintenance Program located in Elk Mountain, Wyoming. As the Highway Maintenance Specialist, you will lead a team and perform various maintenance duties to provide a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system. .

Elk Mountain is a small town located at the base of its11,156-foot namesake in Carbon County. Elk Mountain was named after Sioux Chief Standing Elk. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
- Safely operates and trains others to operate complex machinery in specialized
maintenance applications - Leads the performance of daily maintenance tasks as assigned by the Highway
Maintenance Supervisor I; provides regular work direction to the crew - Assists with tracking inventory, material usage, labor, and equipment mileage in the
supervisor’s absence - Provides advice and assistance on repair procedures needed for highways, equipment
and buildings; makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding any unplanned
maintenance activities that may be needed - Serves as technical resource for the crew; identifies and corrects any maintenance
activity not performed according to state and federal safety and/or quality standards - Communicates project issues to the supervisor; proposes a new course of action to
safely keep the project moving forward - Provides input to the supervisor regarding crew performance issues and success
observed in the field - Operates heavy equipment including, but not limited to: single and tandem axle trucks
equipped with an auger, aerial lift equipment, or equipped with plows, wing plows,
sanders and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from roadway surface - Responsible for rehabilitation of roadway surfaces and traffic control devices; oversees
on-the-road traffic control operations, including oversight of safety procedures and quality
standards - Attends and completes all state and federal training required in order to obtain/maintain
certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skills - Utilizes computers for agency practices, such as for training and performance
evaluations, and keeps up to date on technological advances with specialized equipment
