POSITION SUMMARY:
The TMA provides each resident with routine daily nursing care and administers routine/prn medications in accordance with the resident assessment, choices and care plan under the supervision of a licensed nurse. (The TMA Float will be paid the TMA wage and will be required to working in various parts of the building doing both the TMA and C.N.A duties as needed.)
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The TMA must be a registered as a nursing assistant with a minimum of 2 years of C.N.A experience and must have successfully completed the 48 hour approved Medication Administration Course. Must be able to read, write and speak English.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Personal Care Functions
Resident Assistance
ü Prepares residents for visits by physician, family and other visitors.
ü Assists with end of life and postmortem care as needed.
ü Observes and reports any changes in skin condition (dryness, skin tears, redness, open areas and etc)
ü Answer Call lights
Exercise/Restorative/Rehabilitative Care
ü Positions for comfort in bed and chairs.
ü Assists with lifting, turning, moving. Position, and transporting resident into and out of beds, chairs, B/R, W/C , lifts and etc.
ü Carries out restorative and rehabilitative programs as ordered. Instruct residents in self-help, use of medical appliances and etc.
Elimination
ü Assists resident to and from bathroom.
ü Uses appropriate incontinence product for each resident as specified tin the care plan.
ü Provides perineal care as required.
ü Monitors and documents output as requested.
Vital Signs and Weights
ü Takes and records TPR and BP as assigned.
ü Weighs resident weekly and as requested and record.
- Medication and Treatment Administration Functions
ü Administers medications (oral, topical, rectal, inhalation, and eye drops) and prescription drugs at the direction of a licensed nurse.
ü Follows governmental regulations and facility policies for administration of medications, including controlled substances.
ü Follows the 6 RIGHTS of medication administration –right resident, right medication, right dose, right time, tight route and right document.
ü Follows medication orders that have been previously transcribed.
ü Administers medications immediately after preparation.
ü Documents administration of all medications and appropriate follow up resident response as necessary.
ü Follows the direction provided in the care plan for administering PRN medications. A licensed nurse prior to administration authorizes all PRN medications.
ü Maintains current knowledge of medications and purpose, skin treatments, and applications
ü Performs non-sterile treatments and dressing changes as directed by a licensed nurse.
ü Assists with monthly verification of MAR and TAR form accuracy.
ü Sets priorities in providing for medication administration and cares.
ü Must pass a yearly audit done by a Registered Nurse.
ü Upon orientation TMA will be trained on the use of all SJLH equipment..
