Job Title: Store Clerk Department: Thrift Store
Reports To: Thrift Store Manager FLSA Classification: NonExempt
Job Summary: Responsible for sorting and processing donations as well as maintaining thrift store appearance at all times particularly the physical condition, safety, and cleanliness; to include daily custodial and light furniture loading/moving.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following, other duties may be assigned.
1. Price, sort and process donations
2. Accept incoming donations
3.. Stock and organize shelves with new inventory
4. Enters purchases into cash register to calculate total purchase price
Counts and issues change; issues receipt for purchased merchandise to the customer.
Accepts cash or bankcards for payment; completes bankcard transactions according to established procedure.
Balances cash drawer and receipts; documents discrepancies.
5. Assist in other areas of store, such as clean-up, shelf-stocking, or keeping merchandise displayed in an orderly manner.
6. Performs custodial tasks, such as, cleaning and emptying waste receptacles in large dumpster in back of store
7. Clean, sanitize and restock bathrooms daily (possibly more than once per day depending on activities). Clean countertops, floor and stock paper items
8. Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors each evening
9. Greet customers entering establishments
10. Perform other duties as required
Relationships
Internal: Maintains close contact with thrift store personnel and is required to project professional behavior at all times.
External: Maintain good contact with the general public as necessary. Provides professional and amicable customer service to individual donors, prospective customers and vendors providing third party services for the store.
Financial Responsibility: Responsible for cash register at all times. Must ensure that cash is accounted for at the beginning and end of working shift. Must ensure that all transactions are reported and accounted for per store procedures.
Contacts: Ability to get along with diverse persons and personalities; strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively under demanding circumstances; high level of professionalism.
Judgment and Decision Making: Strong organizational and problem-solving skills including the ability to maintain working area clear and clean of clutter. Organize multiple priorities and a high volume of work. Attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Skills/Knowledge Required
1. High School diploma or GED
2. Minimum 2 years of experience in a cashier or retail store function.
3. Must be skilled in handling and counting cash.
4. Must have knowledge of basic arithmetic
5. Must be able to organize and prioritize workload to ensure all projects are completed
6. Ability to independently carry out assignments to completion.
7. Ability to recognize quality merchandise and effectively seek guidance on pricing from management.
8. Must be detailed orientated and have solid organizational skills
9. Good verbal and written communication skills
10. Must be customer service oriented
11. Professional work ethic and the ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral or diagram form
12. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and work with other employees to ensure a healthy and productive work environment
13. Follow all aspects of safety guidelines, store policies and procedures ensuring all issues are corrected or communicated to management
14. Valid driver's license and good driving record
15. Bilingual Spanish/English a plus
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
Physical requirements: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagram or schedule form. While performing duties of this job, it is required to use hands to handle and feel and to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time as well as be able to bend and lift continuously. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and or move up to 30 pounds, frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance from another person. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
