System One is seeking a motivated Core Thermal Hydraulics Software Engineer for a 12-month contract to support the software development for the reactor core of the sodium-cooled Natrium Reactor program. Reporting to the Manager of Thermal Hydraulics for Core Design and Methods, you will advance thermal-hydraulics software for analyzing the behavior of advanced energy systems under various operating conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and verify computational software to model and analyze core thermal hydraulics for the Natrium demonstration reactor.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary software development teams, actively participating in all stages of the software development lifecycle, including integration into the software quality assurance (SQA) program.
- Work closely with QA teams to ensure that translated code meets required quality standards and acceptance criteria.
- Participate in code reviews, providing feedback to enhance code quality, maintainability, and validation traceability.
- Prepare reports and presentations to document findings, make recommendations, and communicate progress to core thermal hydraulics team managers and leads.
Qualifications and Skills:

- A minimum of 5+ years of industry experience (nuclear or related) with a B.S. degree, or 3+ years with an M.S. or Ph.D., demonstrating expertise in software development and nuclear reactor core thermal-hydraulic analysis.
- Proficiency in Python programming and experience with Git or similar version control systems; preference for candidates also proficient in C++.
- Experience with Software Quality Assurance (SQA) programs and familiarity with Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) standards is highly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, essential for working within an NQA-1 environment and for formally documenting calculations.
- Experience with nuclear reactor subchannel or systems codes (e.g., RELAP5-3D, TRACE, COBRA, SLTHEN, SABRE4) is preferred.
- Knowledge of liquid metal thermal-hydraulics is a plus.
- Strong integrity, open communication, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team-focused environment.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge nuclear reactor technology and be part of a dynamic and collaborative team.
