Job Summary:
The Testing Assistant role will assist with coordinating testing for high school admissions, the execution of selective enrollment elementary programs, and accelerated placement.
This part-time/temporary position will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. The work schedule for this role may fluctuate depending on weekend assessment schedules and will consist of an estimated 20-40 hours per week for an anticipated period of 6 months beginning in December 2024 and ending in June 2025. Due to the part-time/temporary nature of this work, this is not a benefit-eligible position. This role will report to the Assessment Manager, Student Access and Enrollment.
The part-time/temporary Testing Assistant role will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support, such as creating documents and spreadsheets, labeling elementary student tests, and scoring exams
- Organize, shred, and complete inventory test materials
- Use databases to search for students’ test information
- Assist with parent communication, including calling parents to confirm application data, and answering parent questions regarding the test process, scores, and selection
- Assist with testing preparation, including:
- Scheduling students and printing rosters
- Printing organizing, and delivering IEP 504 plans to test sites
- Creating files for diverse learners
- Resolve Age-Inappropriate applications
- Verification of parent/student information
- Assist with the facilitation of testing, such as:
- Student check-in
- Proctoring tests for online test administration and paper-pencil examinations
- Assisting examiners during small group testing of diverse learners
- Monitoring students throughout testing (i.e., assist students to maintain academic honesty and deter cheating)
- Supervise students during transitions to and from the testing room and on restroom breaks
- Other duties as assigned
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the part-time/temporary Testing Assistant role must possess the following qualifications:
Education Required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
- Completion of two years of post-secondary education preferred
Experience Required:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience administering or supporting student assessments, or a general office administration role required
- Student testing or office experience preferred
- Experience working with children/adolescents, either in an educational, testing, or other youth-focused environment preferred
Other Requirements:
- Flexibility to work on weekends during peak times of the year
- Ability to stand for extended periods, and lift 40-50 pounds to relocate test materials during inventory tasks
- Bilingual fluency preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency with MS Office suite, particularly PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
- Knowledge/Coursework in testing
- Strong understanding of ethics and confidentiality
- Detail and customer-service-oriented with a professional demeanor
Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
- Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency -Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
