Test Technician II - Coherent Corp.

We are seeking Test Technicians to join our team in Bloomfield, CT where we develop and produce lasers and related optical components. The Test Technician independently executes final test and assembly steps at their own workstation and provides important data and information on our highly technical products to development team members.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Complete final assembly steps before laser shipment by mounting and gluing free-space optics
• Test lasers and the alignment of optics by operating laser beam analyzers, optical power meters, power supplies and oscilloscopes
• Collect test data and input into electronic files and databases
• Perform the set-up, calibration, testing and troubleshooting of circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies
• Test and troubleshoot assemblies and/or final systems as well as rework on assemblies and/or systems based on test results
• Assist in the selection and set-up of specialized test equipment.
• Execute on goals with little instruction on daily work, general instructions on newly introduced assignments.
• Support Lean Initiatives including 3S weekly & 6S monthly activities
• Ensure a safe work environment and cultivate safe behaviors
• Learn proficiency with multiple product lines
• Assist with documentation as needed
• Other duties as business needs require

Education & Experience

• Technical Associates degree, Certificate in Laser Electro Optics or related discipline --- OR --- 2+ years of closely related opto-mechanical, electronics assembly, or test experience
• Experience with hand tools and power tools is required
• Experience with soldering equipment, vacuum systems, and electrical equipment desired
• Experience in testing digital and/or analog systems desired

Skills

• Ability to follow work instructions, interpret optical and electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, engineering plans and specifications as required
• Demonstrated fine motor skills to perform manual tasks & attention to detail to accurately perform repetitive tasks
• General computer proficiency, basic Excel skills
• Demonstrated ability to adapt and learn
• Ability to work on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring sound judgment in trouble shooting, resolving issues and the ability to provide recommendations
• Ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required

Physical Requirements

Able to frequently lift/push/pull objects up to 50 pounds
