A Qualified health center located New York, NY in is looking for a Temporary School Based Nurse Practitioner.
Type: Contract/Temporary
Schedule: Day Shift (Float): 35 Hrs Per-Week (Mon-Fri 08:30am-04:30pm)
Location: New York, NY
Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner works both in the School-Based Program and within the Pediatric Department as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, whose goal is the delivery of comprehensive health care to Pediatric and Adolescent patients within the Center, as well as eligible children and adolescents attending the contracted schools.
Essential Functions:
• Secure and assess health and developmental history.
• Perform comprehensive Pediatric/Adolescent appraisal; including physical nutritional assessment and developmental evaluations/discriminate normal form abnormal findings and know when to refer to physician.
• Plan and implement routine immunizations.
• Assess and manage common illnesses and accidents of adolescents.
• Prescribe and regulate medications.
• Order and interpret lab studies.
• Provide guidance and education considering common problems of children/adolescents, and preventive measures for maintenance and improvement of health.
• Provide on-site school-based coordination of services.
• Provide guidance and direction to school-based health aides.
• Identify and utilize community resources.
• Work collaboratively with physician preceptor in planning for patient care, and make referrals as indicated.
• Prepare and periodically review medical protocols for pediatric/adolescent health care.
• Maintain proper record keeping systems; maintain all forms requested by Ryan and the New York City and New York State Department of Health.
• In addition to the application of the common principles enumerated in the Pediatric role, the Nurse Practitioner will have knowledge of GYN care including the following:
• Provide counseling about available contraceptive care and make appropriate referrals.
• Provide primary health care to patients in the other clinical areas if eligible and as assigned.
• Participate in Peer Review sessions/audits and other Quality Improvement activities.
• Be available and accessible when assigned to 24-hour telephone coverage.
• Immediately report any problems/unusual occurrences to the supervisor.
• Practice accepted infection control measures in accordance with OSHA Bloodborne pathogens standards and Center policies and procedures.
• Attend all meetings and/or training sessions as required.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Current New York State NP License Required
• Master's Degree in Nursing
• Nurse Practitioner in Pediatrics or Family Care
• 2 years Two years of clinical experience, Women's Health & Pediatrics required
• School-Based health clinic experience required
• Acute, Ambulatory, and Home Health Care settings, preferred
• Board Certification
• Working experience with electronic medical records software (eCW), preferred
• Bilingual English/Spanish or another language, preferred
