The Data Analyst will work on multiple substance use-related training and evaluation data projects that are funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and other local-level sponsors (e.g. Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control, and California Department of Health Care Services). The Data Analyst will be responsible for many of the data management and data analysis aspects of the projects, developing electronic data collection surveys, and preparing reports that summarize project-related data. The ideal candidate is resourceful, organized, detail-orientated, and sensitive to confidential information. This position reports to the Project Director/Principal Investigator and is contingent on grant funding.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Science or Data Science is required.
- A Master’s degree in Social Science Research or Data Analysis is highly preferred.
Required Experience
- One to two years of experience in the substance use/mental health field or experience working as part of a team in a research lab and experience collecting and analyzing data.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
- Establishing, supporting, and managing project-related data aspects (e.g. downloading data from project websites, cleaning data, entering data into reporting websites in a timely manner, preparing data updates for monthly project meetings with project officer).
- Developing electronic survey tools for local-level sponsored projects and writing up brief reports to summarize the data (including semi-annual and annual progress reports).
- Conducting systematic literature reviews for projects and organizing a framework /guideline that details specific methodological activities.
- Collaborating with the project team on implementing data analysis and protocols for data-related tasks.
- Assisting with scheduling project monthly meetings, training, and webinars related to projects.
- Development of project materials (agendas, PowerPoint presentations, handouts, reports) and report writing.
- Assisting research faculty with administrative aspects of projects.
- Responsible for daily electronic timekeeping as it applies to the scope of this position.
- Regular, punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs.
- Perform other duties related to the position as required by the PI as needed.
Skills
- Conducting literature reviews and writing reports.
- Data entry and analysis, including running reports, and producing tables and figures to visual data findings. Demonstrated knowledge of computers and software for data analysis (SPSS, SAS, R, or JMP) and word processing.
- Professional/research writing skills.
- Skill in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Apps for presentations, reports, and conferences.
- Willingness and ability to maintain certifications in responsible conduct of research.
- Must be comfortable working independently, taking initiative,e and working collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally, and in writing, with project team, staff liaison, and other project stakeholders.
- Organizational skills for developing project material (agendas, meeting minutes, and results from data analysis).
- Willingness to be flexible in work hours depending on project needs and requirements.
- Assisting with administrative aspects of the projects.
- Regular, punctual attendance as required by the PI based on department needs.
- Perform other duties related to the position as requested by the PI.
- Driver’s license and transportation for attending meetings on campus (when necessary).
- Willingness to travel to collaborating partner sites as needed.

- Ability to pull, push, bend, grasp, reach, and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Must be able to climb stairs multiple times in a workday.

Technologies
- Proficient in Google Apps (e.g. Google Drive), Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, Adobe, and Qualtrics, SPSS, JMP.
Compensation
- Grade 10: $25.94 to $29.83 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
