GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:The Technology Accountability Advocate will work on a variety of cutting-edge campaigns tied to artificial intelligence (AI), privacy, data, and competition in the Big Tech arena. With deep expertise in technology products, market processes, and emerging threats like generative AI, the Technology Accountability Advocate will utilize that knowledge base along with the tools of strategic advocacy-- lobbying, research, organizing, media and online communications-- to play an integral role in pausing the proliferation of unregulated AI, curbing excessive corporate power and reining in Big Tech.

- Work closely with Public Citizen’s Co-Presidents, the Congress Watch Director and Managing Director, and staff covering privacy and corporate concentration issues to develop and implement strategy for Big Tech accountability with a special focus on AI, technology products, market power and influence, and online platform oversight.
- Work within our privacy and digital rights and anti-corporate power coalitions to help implement collaborative strategic and effective strategies for Hill work, communications, and grassroots engagement. This includes maintaining and building relationships with core coalition partners and allies around various priority campaigns.
- Produce reports, thought pieces, fact sheets, and articles based on research for distribution to the media, policy makers and advocacy groups.
- Draft and submit petitions, letters and testimony, inquires etc. to federal agencies and policy makers, and develop and maintain follow-up efforts.
- Execute social media and traditional media outreach plans in coordination with the Communications Department.
- Develop campaign related materials such as preparing action alerts, tool kits and campaign initiatives on technology and platform accountability issues in collaboration with Public Citizen’s digital team.
- Other duties as assigned.
- College degree required. Masters or Legal degree preferred.
- 5-10 years of relevant research, advocacy, or technology experience, with a preference given to those with specific expertise on AI and/or Big Tech platforms.
- Exceptional analytic, research, and written and oral communications skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with social media and online communications.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in coalitions and networks.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, respond to short-term deadlines and balance multiple responsibilities; maintain strong attention to detail and accuracy; and be persistent.
