BACKGROUND:
QAI laboratories is a testing, inspection and certification organization providing services to manufacturers of Electrical Products, Building Products, Vehicles, Factory Built Structures, and other regulated products. Recognition of the QAI name and logo have grown significantly over the past few years resulting in significant expansion of the business.
Currently, we are looking for an Technician - Fire testing - to join our Building Products team in Tulsa, OK and support future expansion. Our ideal candidate would be someone who has a technical diploma with four years of experience or more, working in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment in the testing, inspection, and certification industry, with knowledge of common ASTM, UL and CSA test methods relating to building products. Flexibility in work schedule and working overtime, if needed, is ideal.
DUTIES: The successful candidate will report to the Operations Manager or his designee and perform, but not be limited to, the following duties:
- Arrange inter-company or contracted work and creates necessary PO requests
- Ensure resources are available for projects and assist Project Managers on project milestones and project budget management in a timely manner
- Perform testing and evaluation of products per QAI competency matrix
- Review test reports and documentation for compliance; assist with written and verbal reports to clients and management
- Maintain a high level of technical competency in the subject field.
- Has overall responsibility for ensuring assigned projects are completed as scheduled.
- Ability to explain technical concepts, standard requirements and QAI processes to clients
- Ability to read, understand and interpret test methods and standards. Seeks assistance from technical manager when needed.
- Assist the sales team on sales quotation when requested, such as review of quotes, test standard interpretation, etc.
- Execution of provided work instructions, assisting Senior technicians as assigned
- Clean up, organization of inventory
- Interact effectively and professionally with customer and colleagues, as required.
- Must be willing to be part of an energetic team with a can-do attitude.
- Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or its designee.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will:
- Possess Technical Diploma in a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Preferably 4+ years related experience in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment in the testing, inspection, and certification industry
- Knowledge of US and Canada building codes and referenced nationally recognized safety standards is a plus.
- Possess the ability to read, understand, and apply technical standards towards product certification, testing, and inspection.
- Possess superior MS Word and Excel skills, be proficient with Email and Adobe Acrobat.
- Possess “Good Laboratory Practice” skills essential for testing products.
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Comfortable with flexible work schedule and working overtime, if needed, is ideal.
Key Technical Competence:
- Accepts instruction and follows it for testing outside of their general scope of knowledge and experience.
- Able to grasp general concepts in a field of testing and apply it to specific test methods.
- Able to perform testing and as knowledge grows in a specific field of testing graduates to more complex testing methods.
- Seeks assistance and knowledge from more senior personnel when a specific requirement is outside of their general scope of knowledge.
- Good working knowledge of the test methods in their specific discipline.
- Able to multi-task with some degree of efficiency and accuracy.
- Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license.
Additional Assets include:
- Previous experience with construction materials and building code compliance practices in the US and Canada
