Job DescriptionThe Refractive Surgery Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:
- Promptly and professionally assists the doctor in patient care, performing patient workups, histories and special testing.
- Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, symptoms, surgery scheduling, etc.
- General care and maintenance of excimer and femtosecond surgical lasers, humidifiers, sterilizers and UPS Units, as well as all examination equipment and small surgical instruments by maintaining energy levels and calibration and cleaning.
- Returning phone calls to patients and pharmacies in a timely manner.
- Assists in refractive surgery as surgical assistant, Visx and femtosecond laser technician.
- Efficiently and accurately interview patients and documents histories.
- Assists in documentation of surgical procedures, clinical encounters and outcome analysis.
- Accurately performs:
- Refractions w/retinoscopy
- Lensometry
- Keratometry
- Tonometry
- Slit lamp exams
- Pupil exams
- Corneal Topography
- Wavescan exams
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience/training in a refractive surgery center.
- One (1) to two (2) years experience in a relevant role.
- Knowledge of ocular anatomy; ophthalmic medications; visual physiology, optics; use and maintenance of ophthalmic instruments and testing equipment; ophthalmic and medical regulations; medical terminology; optometric technology; asepsis; ocular referrals and emergency medical treatment; patient transportation; medical ethics; medical administration; and medical service organization and function. Additionally, knowledge of surgical instruments and equipment, ophthalmic injectable medications, anesthetic solutions, and ocular disorders.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to question activities and issues in all functional areas and make sound business decisions based on that data.
Preferred:
- Certification on VISX Star S4 and Intralase IFS lasers.
