About the Job
Scope of Job:
Under the direction and supervision of the Head of Training and Compliance, the Technical Writer will be responsible for Creating, Updating, and Controlling Technical Services Documents and Manuals; including but not limited to Codes of Safe Working Practice, Operation and Maintenance Manuals, Merlin and Manufacturer Technical/Safety Bulletins and Training Resources. They will ensure conformity to required local and company standards and regulatory requirements and ensure information appropriately Translates into the Technical Services Asset Management System, HxGN (previously INFOR) for all associated Work Tasks and Instructions.
Main Responsibilities will be, but not limited to, the following:
- Gather information through research of Documents, Reports and Workplace Observations to ensure manufacturer requirements are met as well as implementing additional requirements from local regulations and/or internal Policies.
- Creation of Documents to include Templates and Reformatting of older documents to ensure consistency of written procedures and supporting Training Materials across all Technical Teams.
- Collaborate with Technicians and Technical Management to understand requirements of written procedures and translate technical concepts and practices into clear and concise documentation.
- Use of suitable drawings, diagrams, charts, pictures or other technical visual references to support the understanding of written procedures.
- Perform reviews of O&M documents against Technical Training Documents and Codes of Safe Working Practices.
- Continue to Develop Document Cataloging and Access Control system to maintain up to date records as well as effective archiving of previous versions.
- Work with the Systems Coordinator to ensure Technical Tasks assigned in HxGN reflect the information within the Technical Documentation for all Rides, Equipment and Inspections.
- Collaborate with Technical Management to appropriately manage any Document change requests in line with Document Control Processes from internal requests, Manufacturer requirements or Modification requirements.
Other Job Requirements:
- Flexible schedule to include hours during evenings, weekends and holidays to support the Resort Operation and Technical Shifts as required.
HSS:
- Ensures internal compliance with maintenance, safety and security procedures by following established ASTM (American Society for Testing & Materials International), NEC (National Electrical Code), NSF (National Science Foundation), OHSA as well as state and local codes.
- Ensure full compliance of policies and procedures set forth within the Health, Safety & Security in the workplace Manual and in line with the Merlin Entertainments Group Policy.
- Understand risk assessments within own workplace and ensure reporting of any new risks to the appropriate manager.
- Compliance of safe working procedures for work activities within one’s job role, but cognizant of the effects on others prior to the activity/function.
- In cases of incidents or accidents ensure appropriate reporting is done in a timely manner to the duty manager.
Health & Safety:
Employees are responsible for the safety of themselves, their colleagues, and guests (where appropriate), in line with the Group Policy (HS001) and the law. They must ensure that they follow safe working procedures for all work activities that they undertake, and they must not use any tools or equipment for which they have not been trained. Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are reported to their line manager and must cooperate with any investigation as appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience:
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- Engineering Technical Writing bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or 2-3 years professional experience desirable.
- Ability to read and translate Technical drawings, schematics and written documents.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good organizational skills including the ability to effectively manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments within expected time frames.
- Working knowledge of current automated business systems preferably Office Suite and Adobe Software Solutions.
- Mechanical and Electrical (Control Systems) Engineering aptitude is a plus.
- Good written and verbal communication skills as well as an eye for detail are crucial to develop documents as required and ensure information is appropriately conveyed to the Technical Teams.
- Understanding of requirements of Planned Preventative Maintenance and Work Order processes ideal.
- OSHA 10 for General Industry a plus.
