Salary Range: $66,560 - $79,700
DPSS is searching for an experienced technical writer to join the team. The ideal candidate will have proven success in researching, evaluating, analyzing, and communicating complex information. The DPSS technical writer is expected to understand project requirements, audience-focused communications (technical / non-technical), and concision. Candidates will have experience producing and copy-editing both user-facing documentation, such as technical manuals, specifications, and internal documentation including code diagrams, processes, and code references. Candidates are expected to work both independently and in collaborative environments.
Essential Job Functions:
Maintain general knowledge of engineering, software development, and technology.
Assist subject matter experts with the writing, editing, and verification of technical documentation.
Generate and revise technical documents including User Guides, Manuals, Interface Control Documents (ICD), etc.
Provide formatting and technical editing of documents and presentation materials based on DoD and DPSS style guides.
Support design reviews, requirements reviews, and other technical reviews (or review boards).
Document DPSS processes and procedures with assistance from DPSS personnel.
Produce DPSS briefing materials.
Develop and update style guides and templates to achieve consistent documentation.
Support continuous improvement for existing DPSS process and procedure documents.
Produce or work with graphic designers to create visual aids for the IPT, to include infographics, diagrams, charts or video.
Required Skills:
Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
Bachelors in English, communications, engineering, or computer technology with at least 2 years of relevant experience or an Associates-level (technical school) degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance for continued employment.
Self-motivated, quick learning, and comfortable working independently or in a group.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Detail oriented and must be able to work multiple assignments simultaneously.
Advanced skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Must be able to manage multiple tasks.
Resourceful, creative, and adaptable.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Desired Skills:
Experience with Atlassian tools (e.g., Jira and Confluence) and SharePoint.
Experience with Fusion and Wiki sites.
Expertise with Adobe Acrobat.
Experience working with technical documentation.
