Description: Provides analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation for on-boarding and technical training activities, courses, and programs to support the organization and/or customers. Delivers and documents elements of the on-boarding/orientation and technical training program. Conducts classroom, virtual and hands-on instructor-led training. Partners with functional areas to develop training resources for audio, visual and kinesthetic learning types. Conducts training in accordance with company policy and procedure, local, state/federal, and international regulations and/or customer requirements. Supports and provides guidance for training activity, course and program development using courseware/authorware and learning management (LMS/LCMS) tools. Maintains professional accreditation and knowledge in communication, learning theory, coaching, feedback and motivation KSAs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified. • Review, organize, and process training and assessment requests from staff and clients. • Maintain training and assessment documentation, including technique proficiency lists for technical staff. • Implement the staff onboarding program for Insourcing Solutions new hires locally, delegating onboarding tasks when appropriate. • Ensure appropriate Charles River Campus courses are assigned to clients with refresher training completed at required intervals. • Assist in routine review of training related program documents. • Ensure understanding of CRADL and Charles River policies. • Cultivate good communication and working relationships with the IACUC office and site-specific veterinary team, management, technical and husbandry staff, and researchers. • Maintain familiarity with the IACUC training protocol and ensure all training animal use is compliant with both the protocol and with institutional policies. • Track site-specific usage of training animals and ensure availability of sufficient animals for training needs. • Track and ensure availability of additional resources needed for the implementation of the training program, including but not limited to electronic resources, procedure space availability, injectable dyes, carcasses, restrainers, etc. • Verify, approve & collaborate with Procurement Coordinators the transfers of nai ve animals to the training protocol when needed, in accordance with the 3Rs. • May provide backup coverage for Veterinary Technicians when needed. • Report non-compliance or animal welfare concerns to the appropriate Animal Welfare Team member or IACUC office. • Work closely with the IACUC office to ensure that client competency assessments are scheduled and performed as needed. • Perform and/or appropriately assign competency assessments for higher risk procedures, making on-the-spot corrections to observed skill deficiencies and preventing deviations from IACUC protocols and institutional policies that may result in animal pain or discomfort, and providing detailed feedback following assessments. I Page 2 of 3 JOB DESCRIPTION • Perform and/or appropriately assign staff technical proficiency assessments and sign-offs. • Organize and implement hands-on technique demonstration and training at regular intervals for staff and clients • Working with the Operations team, direct the implementation of the CRADL staff onboarding program locally as needed, delegating onboarding tasks to subject matter experts (SME's) appropriately. Perform staff technical proficiency assessments and sign-offs as needed. • Able to perform or obtain proficiency in the following techniques for purposes of training or technical service: o Dilution and dosing calculations o PO, SQ, IP, and IM, dosing and/or inoculation techniques o Blood collection: Submandibular, Submental, Cardiac o Basic necropsy and tissue collection o Tumor measurement and body weights • Maintain familiarity with the IACUC training protocol and ensure all training animal use is compliant with both the protocol and with institutional policies. • Maintains required attendance level and adherence to work schedule in accordance with required staffing levels to ensure that assigned duties are completed. • Perform all other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: • Education: Associate degree (A.A./A.S.) or Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in animal or laboratory science, adult education, or related field. • Experience: Minimum two - three (2 - 3) years of hands-on experience with rodents in a laboratory animal setting with technical experience preferred, or experience in adult education in any setting in combination with experience in any role in a laboratory animal setting. • Certification/Licensure Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification from AALAS. Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG), CVT, LVT, or RVT certification preferred. • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and certifications may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: • Working knowledge of functional area and understanding of how training may impact other areas. • Working knowledge of delivering training programs and of other areas of laboratory animal care. • Applies knowledge of individual facility SOPs to ensure that they are being properly followed. • Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workloads and to set priorities which reflect the relative importance of job duties. • Working knowledge of behavior and appearances of laboratory animals is sufficient to notice deviations from normal. • Knowledge and understanding of the following guidelines and regulations: "The Guide”, PHS Policy, and AVMA. • Strong proficiency of in-vivo technical skills and working experience of multiple animal models. • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment. • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with clients, customers, coworkers, and supervisors. • Ability to demonstrate strong teamwork orientation; oral and written communication skills; attention to detail, organization, achieve work goals with minimum daily oversight, and superior customer service focus. Strong organization skills and proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks/projects to meet department objectives and deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required move about inside the facility, communicate, and operate a computer. The employee is routinely required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
