The primary responsibility of the Technical Trainer is to develop, present, and facilitate company technical training & development programs for Diesel Engine and Heavy Equipment Mechanics at Mustang Cat. Technical Trainer Responsibilities:
- Consulting with all locations to ensure the resolution of critical technical problems while enhancing the technical competencies of Caterpillar dealer Technicians, specifically Diesel and Natural Gas Engine Technicians
- Expedite development of new technicians into productive employees by implementing entry-level soft-skills, technical, and process training (including parts ordering, ET, SIS, Service reports, etc.)
- Expand product knowledge & core competencies of experienced technicians through the creation & implementation of advanced-level technical courses & product updates.
- Develop & administer technical training evaluation tools, aids, and materials to determine the effectiveness, relevance, and content quality of current training programs, using results to effect change as needed.
- Maintaining all service training facilities, records, and resources
- Assisting shop mentors with coaching & training of Cat Dealer Prep students (Think Big, etc.) & new inexperience technicians
- Providing additional training as needed to facilitate technical skill mastery
Technical Trainer Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Training, Technical or other related field. Will consider 8 years of equivalent work experience in lieu of educational requirements
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to capture an audience, maintain and redirect their attention quickly and efficiently
- In-depth knowledge of internal combustion engines and the fundamental differences between spark vs compression ignition engines.
- Technical background with the ability to read schematics, engineering drawings, and machining specifications
- Working knowledge of precision measuring equipment to include: dial bore gauges, calipers, O.D. micrometers, depth micrometers, profilometers, T-gauges, gauge blocks, etc.
- Working knowledge of water brake and inertial dyno testing procedures, nomenclature, and performance troubleshooting
- Knowledge of CAT and Mustang data/service systems and applications
- Soft skills are required for a technical professional whose insight and recommendations directly influence service revenue and technician retention in a competitive environment.
