About the Job
We are looking for a Technical Specialist for the Engine and Hybrid Powertrain Systems team. The Technical Specialist Gasoline Combustion Engines position is an opportunity for the right candidate to experience state-of-the-art powertrain technology and get involved in a wide range of development tasks that move application solutions from concept to production. The Technical Specialist supports gasoline powertrain development programs and provides technical guidance to Project and Senior Engineers conducting vehicle and engine testing.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define project scopes, project schedules and test plans.
- Plan and oversee tests on engine/chassis dynamometer or in application to assess the performance, fuel economy, and emissions of new engine and engine system technologies
- Support execution of projects in a team environment and provide technical guidance to project team members
- Specify test instrumentation and methodologies to meet measurement requirements for engine dynamometer and component bench tests
- Lead the calibration and validation of electronic control unit parameters to satisfy program objectives
- Conduct detailed data analysis, determine/guide next steps and maintain project timelines
- Develop project status reports and technical presentations for customers and internal management
- Mentor engineering colleagues to help grow the technical expertise in the organization
- Participate in customer meetings and support the development of technical project proposals
- Work closely with design and simulation engineers and provide guidance to help define engine performance related attributes for new engine programs
- Work closely with control systems engineers and provide guidance to help define engine performance related control software algorithms for new engine control features
- Prepare and present final project reports that provide interpretation of collected data and summarize key technical findings
- Support improvement of test methods and procedures
- Participate in the development of technical publications
- Fulfill and enforce ISO and Internal Quality policies as required
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of experience in calibration and/or experience with powertrain development
- Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and internal combustion engines
- Strong knowledge of SI combustion process
- Understanding of base engine, aftertreatment and/or hybrid electronic control system strategies, knowledge on software logic implementation and control system functionality
- Experience using commercially available calibration and development tools (i.e., ETAS INCA, ATI Vision, Vector CANape/CANalyzer, Matlab/Simulink)
- Experience leading technical project teams and mentoring team members
- Project leadership experience, analytical problem solving, and strong interpersonal skills
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Masters degree preferred
- Knowledge of control strategies employed on Bosch and/or GPEC controllers
- Experience in aftertreatment system calibration
- Knowledge of hybrid powertrain systems
- Strong understanding of US emission regulations and certification test procedures
- Understanding of US OBD regulations and monitoring approaches
- Exposure to hybrid system controls
- Hands-on experience with engine hardware engine assembly or rebuilding
- US citizen or Permanent Residence a plus
