What You’ll Work On
The Center of Excellence (COE) TSD Manager leads a team of experts to provide best-in-class expertise, leadership and guidance to the frontline TSD team, ensuring the frontline TSD team are fully enabled to engage with the full end to end solutions.
The leader drives TSD strategy and direction through a team of expert designers, data analysts, trainers and informatics specialists focused on accelerating win rate and speed to revenue along with gross margin impact and solution Fit and Proof evidence. The COE Manager accelerates client buy-in and contract awards to Abbott through utilization of advanced 3D, QR, Simulation, site specific installation plans, data analytics and informatics solutions.
The leader provides and coordinates expert level training to frontline TSD team to consistently elevate performance. Enhancing TSD commercial contribution by developing and integrating optimized and compliant materials such as solution modeling data, solution transition journey, 3D renderings, walk through videos and solution tours. Ensure compliant and authorized tools are maintained, utilized and trained so that there is a level of consistency and excellence in all TSD functions.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and motivate the Technical Solution Design Center of Excellence team. Manage resources to ensuring the team delivers innovative and high-quality support to the front line TSD sales team. Foster a collaborative and motivating environment that drives the team toward continuous improvement and excellence.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Abbott’s automation, instrumentation, and informatics products, including preanalytical, analytical and post analytical solutions. As the experts - ‘expert’ of technical specifications, guide the Automation, Instrumentation, and Informatics teams on best practices of designing solutions that meet customer space and workflow requirements. Provide expert insights on all end-to-end laboratory designs in the area to include appropriate electrical, routing and capacity determinations.
- Evaluate, develop, and commercialize new technologies that improve the efficiency and differentiation of Technical Solutions Design processes and strategic deliverables. Partner with Technical Solutions Design area leaders and COE teams to develop and implement standardized automation, analytics, workflow, and informatics consulting tools that meet and exceed global best practices.
- Manage the technical review and approval process of automation, workflow and informatics designs submitted to global Abbott Automation systems. Provide expert review and feedback to regional teams to ensure compliance and best practice designs are submitted for global review. Finalize the design layout and required submission paperwork. Prioritize design review and approval of key accounts.
- Manages and prioritizes the creation of Layouts, 3D modeling, rendering, animation, video production, virtual reality, QR barcodes and walk-through videos of custom designed solutions. Sole provider of materials that are used in every customer presentation and RFP submission. Partner with TSD and sales leaders to ensure exceptional deliverables are utilized to further Abbott’s position in the sales process.
- Provide technical expertise and leadership with Area Marketing, Legal and Regulatory departments to maintain TSD team compliance of automation track system, design specifications, instrumentation, and informatics. Own the development of training programs and materials for regional TSD teams that enhance design and sales objectives while meeting compliance standards.
- Ensure consistent use of approved TSD tools such as Data analytics, capacity modelling, solution design and verification and other elements of TSD functions from data collection through data analysis and client facing materials and engagements.
- Develop new tools that enhance the competitive differentiation of Abbott design solutions. Research industry best practices and cutting-edge technologies that can be utilized to further enhance Abbott’s differentiated market positioning. Develop budget requests, procedures, and training programs to roll out new products.

- Attend regular departmental meetings with manager/supervisor to build in continuous feedback mechanisms.
- Meet the requirements of ISO and Class A by complying with all relevant Quality policies and procedures to ensure the Quality objectives of the business are met.
- Comply with all relevant company Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and work practices with the intent of preventing or minimizing accidental exposures to self, colleagues and/or the environment.

- Reports into Area Lead Technical Solutions Design / Sr. Director Global Technical Solutions Design
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
- Direct Reports: 6 (potentially 9)
Position Accountability / Scope
- Lead design and analytical services for Area – targeting Share Capture and Renewal pipeline of approximately $100 - $140MM decisions per annum.
- Improve pre-sale client engagement visuals and interactive technology use inclusive of solution walk through, solution simulation, transition journeys.
- Accountable for the use of advanced technology to capture data, visualize and simulate.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 10+ Years of experience, both overall and industry-specific
Preferred Qualifications
MBA preferred but optional.
- 10+ years of combined experience in one or more of the following: (i) selling technical products, services, installations, and configurations of automated diagnostics systems, laboratory automation systems, or system integrations; (ii) clinical laboratory science, laboratory management, operations, informatics or workflows; (iii) clinical diagnostics marketing or product management; or (iv) conducting data analyses and utilizing data mining software specific to laboratory instrumentation and automation platforms
- Preferred experience in the IACC/Hematology/Automation/Digital disciplines.
- Experience with process Improvement methodologies such as LEAN, Six Sigma, DMAIC, 5s, etc.
- Workflow and laboratory operations or design.
- Strong computer literacy.
- IVD industry and competitive knowledge.

The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 – $218,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
