Position: Technical Manager
Position Overview
Our Technical Manager has the overall responsibility within the Division to lead and provide direction of the Division's technical operations to align with company goals and objectives. The Technical Manager is responsible for providing guidance on a wide range of technological solutions and resources to deliver improved job site safety, increase productivity and efficiency, reduce costs and minimize environmental impact. This position is a leadership role with daily internal/external communication and customer focus.
Responsibilities of the Position
· While carrying out daily responsibilities safety and compliance must be the priority. Takes personal responsibility for safety and champions company-wide safety goal of zero incidents.
· Partners with Division management to develop plans, identify special projects and implement technical solutions and controls to optimize customer operations.
· Provides a technical review of proposed blasting solutions and personally helps to solve difficult technical problems.
· Ensures all company and customer safety protocols as well as regulatory policies and procedures are implemented and followed.
· Maintains a high level of technical expertise and knowledge by keeping current with industry advancements, systems and equipment and regulatory changes.
· Works with local management, technical engineers and representatives to provide guidance and training to improve techniques and services to optimize blast outputs.
· Participates in hazard reviews, investigation of blasting incidents or safety violations, and implementation of corrective actions. Effectively report and communicate as necessary with customers, vendors and regulators.
Qualifications
· Mine Engineering (or similar degree) preferred
· 7+ years of technical experience working on job sites in the quarry, mining and construction industries. Knowledge and hands-on experience in modern blast design technology including 3D modeling coupled with drone applications. Hands-on blasting experience would be highly beneficial.
· Position requires ability to pass a background check conducted by the ATF to possess and handle explosives.
· Possesses intellectual curiosity to analyze and assess information to consider possible solutions and impacts, making significant recommendations or decisions with confidence.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to collaborate and convey messages, instructions, and decisions in an effective, professional manner.
· Ability to prepare reports and give effective presentations to internal and external audiences.
· Ability to work with minimal supervision, simultaneously oversee multiple projects in multiple locations while meeting deadlines agreed upon.
· Must have the flexibility to work long hours and sporadic schedules to meet customer demands with some overnight travel.
Work Environment
· This position works on mine-site locations year-round in all weather conditions.
· Frequent exposure to heavy equipment.
· Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, bend, twist, climb on rough terrain with uneven surfaces for long periods of time.
· Work involves a variety of manual tasks to complete blasting operations
