Technical Documentation Writer
Location: Sunnyvale, CA/Hybrid
Duration: 4-5 Months with possible extension
Description:
Responsibilities:
Candidate will work under a manager who works with a group of writers who are responsible for a variety of content such as LMS courses, video scripts, and manual/service guides for product repairs.
This person will specifically be dedicated to writing the repair guides (given to the public).
This person will be assigned to various projects and partner with cross functional teams such as Hardware Engineering to complete them.
They will gather source materials, sit in on demos, prepare procedures, etc.
They need to ensure the content they are creating can be useable to the public and should have an understanding of the target audience using the guides. This person needs to have a background in which they themselves have had their hand in physically touching product, such as a Service Technician.
A Service Technician will understand how all of the repairs work as well as the environment (pacing, parts, language).
They will be familiar with tools like screw drivers, pliers, special tapes, etc.
They should also understand what to do in emergency situations (battery combustion) and understand what can happen when products are built/tested to ensure no one gets hurt.
This person will have then taken their prior experience and gained experience within technical documentation and writing. If they have had prior experience with a CMS (content management system) and Wrike that would be helpful
Key Qualifications:
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Ability to research technical topics and convey technical information to readers of varying skill and experience
Experience writing step-by-step hardware procedures
Ability to balance multiple tasks for several projects at the same time, often on short timelines
Experience with style guides (experience writing globally and accessibly is a plus)
Experience with content management systems, digital asset management, word processing, and spreadsheet apps
Trustworthy; often information is confidential
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience require.
